Question
Aerofoil for an ASW20?

Hi,

Whilst I love my Pat Teakle ASW20 with extended 6m wings clearly it won't roll so I want to build another set of wings I can fit when I want to be a hooligan.
I plan to cut them from foam with a friends help and have carbon spars top and bottom with a shear web between and then probably veneer them and film or glass.

So the question to those in the know is what aerofoil section(s) should I go for - MH32, RG15, SD or Eppler? - other suggestions based on experience welcomed.

I plan the make the span about 4.3m and would like her to be agile and aerobatic but not ridiculously non scale looking in performance.

Many Thanks

Simon

I've never gone wrong with HQ series foils (and I go wrong a lot, believe me!)

My fave is 3 -3.5 deg camber and 12% thickness, but go for 1 - 1.5 deg camber if you're a hooligan, and as thin as you can build with a strong spar. I hear good stuff about the HQW variants but haven't tried them.

All 100% opinion of course.

You'll not be far off with HQ2/12. The thickness isn't that much of a 'drag' as one might think and the spar depth will be most useful...

Simon,

I think the MH-32 thickened to 11 or 12% or one of the TP-210 sections (http://tracfoil.free.fr/airfoils/t.htm) would give you a snappier '20.

+1

I initially thought a big fat section HQ 3/15 on my 20 would limit performance.

I neednt of worried, it flys superbly and I would certainly get another HQ.
