Upgrade V929 to V949

While I couldn't find any V949 replacement parts on sale at the moment, I believe when they do, existing owners of V929 would be able to upgrade to the V949 with the following parts:
  1. Canopy x 1
  2. V949 Board (2012/07/30 REV:02 JR-WL-FD02R-1) x 1
  3. V949 Red LED strips x 2
  4. V949 Multi colored, running LED strips x 2
  5. V949 E728 transmitter x 1
But then again, it's not a bad idea to get a V949 as an addition to the fleet.

I just found out there's a discount code for the V949! I wonder how long more before it expires.

Be sure to buy spare booms, blades and batteries too.

My love for the V949 has grown a great deal

I just completed a Sunday late night flight and I must say that my preference for the V949 has grown significantly.

There are only 2 quads that I fly regularly - V929 and V939. I prefer V939 because it flies better than the larger V929. As I don't have time to fly in the day as well as the 33 degrees Celcius noons are unbearable, I fly mostly at night. The tiny V939 is not well suited for night flying because of its size. Yes, it comes with LEDs but they are not good enough. I tried to enhance it with "headlights mod" but it wasn't perfect. While I love the way the V939 cuts through the night breeze, I still can't enjoy the night flights because of the poor visibility of the quad.

Now I have the V949. Like its brother, the V929, it does not fly like the V939 but the LEDs are extremely purposeful and functional. I can easily tell the state of the quad from far. I know how much it is drifting, how fast it is flying, by observing the LEDs. This gives me great confidence and satisfaction that the V939 can't provide. The night flight advantage is enough to dethrone V939 as the top choice for my regular night quad sessions.

My perfect quad is therefore one with the flight characteristics of the V939 but comes with LEDs like those found on the V949. One day... it's gonna happen. I hope.

Nice writing as always Fyre

I have the same dillema every night, what should i use:

- V929 SMD LED that has powerfull leds and i can go as far and high as i want

or

- V939 that blast thru the night like bat but it's not that good visible

Thanks.

Maybe I should send my V939 to a hobby shop, to add 4 x SMDs along the each of the 4 booms. I'm bad at electronics and soldering.

SMD led advantage is very wide angle of lumination: 120 degrees !

That makes them perfect for our needs.

Believe me: I'm the worst at soldering in the whole universe, because my hands shakes a lot.

Still i was able to somehow solder 1206 SMD's to magnet wire and repair all my flying machines.

Buy some cheapo soldering iron and try on some wires or full-size LED's for fun.

You will enjoy it and for 3-4$ you can't go wrong

Real trick is to use flux everywhere you try to solder !

I must work something out for V939 !

I soldered 2 x 5mm white LEDs to my V939. It took me a long time to get it right. It may not be worth my time and effort to solder the tiny SMDs. I suppose the pros would take a fraction of my time and effort to accomplish the task. Last check, it was approx. USD10 for labor charges. Judging from the amount of time I spent on just the 2 x 5mm LEDs, I'd say 10 bucks is a steal for the tiny SMDs! Heh!

Again another fine review. I bound my T9X to V929 and like it much better than stock tx. Rudder now is great. Trim is off a little but very minor and harder you fly it, less of an issue. Stock TX rudder is very stiff. . Now spinning in place is very easy and much better throddle control. Just made a good thing better.

Very nice review Fyre .
I got my V949 few weeks ago but because I already have a V929 with LEDs (yes, the tree lover...) that I can turn on/off with the V939 Transmitter, I didn't see any change except the canopy and the box.
Actually I fly the V929 outdoors and the V949 in my 20 m2 living-room and can't find any difference in their flight behavior.

Just found this topic.

Sounds like the 949 is what I want: 100% control, but no auto flip . It also sounds like it's the new firmware in the control board that's allowing this. So a 2012/07/30 version of the board fitted into a 929 would do the trick.

I didn't see any mention as to whether the LED's are switchable at all?

It's still not clear (at least to me) how kosem is pulling this off:

My last wish for a switchable location buzzer might be possible if I could replace one LED set with a buzzer *AND* there were different LED lighting options (which I seem to recall I read somewhere, but maybe I'm thinking of other topics) so that you could have some LED's on, but the buzzer off. Likely dreaming here .

As there's no BNF version of the 949 (right now) it's academic, but I guess if you have a 929TX then unless you want the auto flip, there's no need to buy another TX? However, since you get get the 949 for less than a 9x tx it's a pretty good way to go.

Hmmmm, now we're entering the "dark season", how can I justify getting one .

cheers,
Andrew
