I think the offset from centreline is different for each boat, and seems to relate to foil shape. With a sailsetc fin (or similar width) the boats do not want to sail low, they track very high and true, but dont seem to gain the acceleration benefits of cracking the sails a little, yet the boats with narrower fins, Lintel, Widget, BP etc all seem happier to get water movement over the fin, and you can crack them off a click or two in order to get that extra bit of speed without losing the pointing ability.

Interesting, the V8 is recommended to be 8mm from the sheet post but 70mm jib slot a lot more than a BP and others.
