NiMH battery to LiPo
I fly my Fire-bird Commander often... 4.8V 600mAh battery.
Can I convert the plane to Li-Po batteries (3.7V)

4.8V Ni means 4 cells which charge to aprox. 6.4 and maintaint 5volts or more during early flight and then drop as flight time passes.
A 1S LiPoly charges to 4.2 and is aprox. 4V under a light load , 3.7 under a moderate load and 3.0 to 3.5 under a heavy load depending on the capacity , C rate and the load.
Most lukely you would need a 2S (2 cells) 7.4V Lipoy and also a LiPoly charger, a LiPoly frienly ESC and practice very good throttle management if you are using a brushed motor to keep from burning it out.
Best advice would be to purchase a Brushess motor and ESC as well as the 2S LiPoly.
Please spend some time learning about LiPOlys before purchasing them.
