Cool! I'm so tempted to try that.

But...give us some facts! What type of airgun was that, what calibre, etc. I assume the lipo pack was already toast--did it have a full charge, flat dead--bad cell? I wonder if any old lipo pack would do the same.

I have some airguns and some old lipos and a little mischief in me. I wouldn't set the lipo on a stack of wood, though

Guns, giggles and the sweet, sweet smell of a lipo fire. Doesn't get much better than that!

Great Vid!

Ya gotta love the smell of lithium in the morning.

Looks like the battery was on a wood plank that was resting on top of the log holder. My guess is that is slid off the front of the plank and landed on the wood.

Either that, or it torched a hole right through the wood. I would used a fireproof surface, but then again, I don't always think of thinkgs like that when I am drinking.

I put a hole in one of these,

http://www.amain.com/EcoPower-Electr...200mAh/p265098

it did not emit noxious fumes like the other batteries I shot. Chemistry must be different.

I usually use a .223- pellet rifles sometimes only penetrate one or 2 cells.

.
What was the state of charge? Packs under 1/2 charged may not do much and the less charged the less they do.

I am all that good at math, and am by no means an export on LiPos, but I will take a shot at this, since no one else has.

It appears that the battery discharged in approx. 10 seconds after being wounded. A 4000mAh pack at 70% charge has 2,800mAh remaining. A 10-second 2,800mAh discharged would equal 420C. So yeah, he probably exceeded the pack's "C" rating.

If I am way off base, please feel free to call me out. This was a quick and dirty calculation, and it's bedtime.
