Build Log
My first sort of Scratch quad build.

Ok so I started of with a x525 from hobbyking it was a great little quad nice and strong never broke it.

I decided I wanted to go FPV and film with a GoPro, So I ordered all the Fpv gear and this is what I got myself.

A hobbyking fpv camera I think it was 600- 700 line camera with a wide angle lens.

I got the Boscam 600mW 32ch Tx and RX with Clover Leaf antenna.

I have a 3 way camera switch.

I also have a Tarot Brushless gimbal for gopro It seems great apart from a slight vibration I think from the role motor.

I'm reusing all of my gear from my x525 and that is.

NTM 28- 26 1000kV motors.
1045 props
30 amp rctimer ESC simonK ones.
APM 2.5.
3s 2200mah x2 batteries.
And the FrSKY TARANIS.

The reason why I'm making a change is because the X525 can't carry all that gear properly so I decided to make my own frame and just reuse the arms and motor mounts.
And some new tarot legs as you can see in the picture.

So Far I designed it and cut it out. I then mounted the arms the legs are not secured yet still some more work to do. I put the arms on to make sure it fits.

It will get a paint job after everything is test fitted.

I have done all the cutting myself.

Let me know what you think and any ideas are also great as this is my first time scratch building.

Ill get some better photos up soon.

All I can say... wow that is a thick ply you are using there... Makes your quad way to heavy and you are losing quite a few minutes of flight time because of that. Drill some holes or use thin ply.

I was just going to ask what that weighs with the gimbal, GoPro, extra battery and landing structure.

I'm guessing north of 2200g.

That's a bear for those 10" props I imagine.

Looks nice but feels... heavy.

Have a look at this one:
http://www.bevrc.com/fpv-quad-mf450_p468.html
http://www.cambriahobby.com/index.ph...&product_id=48

The frames look very similar to yours but it's cut out of thin and lightweight resin laminate. I am using AX2810Q KV750 motors with 12x4.5 props and the lifting power is awesome!

Yeah I worried about the weight its 7mm ply. I do have 12 inch props but I don't think these motors will cope. I will cut some holes out in the ply everything has been a guess for me.

I think it will fly but the flight times might become a big problem.

If I were to change motor What would people suggest without spending crazy amounts of money.
maybe something that will work well with 12 inch props on a 3 cell if its even possible?

Ok so I have done some more work on it and made a change still a small concern about AUW yet to put is on the scales but it might be ok for now.

I just have to wire everything up now maybe give it a tune and should be ready for first flight.

OK I tested my quad today all loaded up about 10 mins flight time. I used 12 inch carbon props yes I know pushing it for 1000 kv motors :S but they are strong

Now it has been windy all week so I'm not sure if the quad is tuned OK yet, It has a nasty wobble as you will see in the video.

Maybe someone that can read the inboard telemetry might be able to see if there is an issue there if someone is happy to do that ill upload the file or maybe someone could tell me what to do

The hover is about 50% so that's not bad. I have had a temptation to redo the motor winding's maybe lower kv?

Anyway here is the video so you can see on and the two video's are out of sync :S

Scratch built Quad-copter first flight. (6 min 29 sec)

No expert here but it seems your gains are too high. I only fly Naza but mine did that when my gains where high.

Ok so I took the quad out for a flight and a few seconds after it took off the motor fell off broke my landing gear and pulled the motor wires

As I have no spare motors I have to work out my options.

Do I have a go at fixing the motor tho I think the thread's are stuffed?

Do I just replace that motor?

Do I do a motor Upgrade the quad might be able to do 15inch props?

Or as I am still newish to the hobby do i look at a Hexa copter build?
I don't know much about hexa's yet, I know if you loose a prop you still have a chance to rescue it and you you can lift more with a hexa.

What I don't know, Is it more stable then a quad to fly would it be easier to fly?

I might put these questions in multirotor talk if no response.

Either way I cant fly until its fixed

It got pulled out because the epoxy failed, but are the wires actually broken?

I have 1000kv NTM motors and when I took them out of storage, the same part came off. I don't think hot glue nor superglue is going to work, been to the hardware store several times and I keep forgetting to buy the epoxy

In comparison, Sunnysky motor wires are very flexible, why didn't they use those wires and use better epoxy on the NTMs?
