Drugs are legal in the US, as long as they have good representation in dc; pharma, alcohol, tobacco.

Which is what turns the war on drugs in to gorilla warfare; the one type of warfare that cannot be effectively dealt with because there are no obvious boundaries, alies, or enemies.

You set the default position at maximizing individual liberty and the responsibility for the consequences that goes with it as much as possible, then make minor adjustments as absolutely necessary.

This is the opposite of the current knee jerk reaction to go whole hog trying fix all perceived societal ills with massive spending on intrusive programs that have only served to make the US the incarceration capitol of the world.

First step is to legalize and decriminalize. And yes, the tax revenue from it would be a significant windfal ... but if you tax it too much, you drive the market underground which would just start a black market and all of the same problems over again.

agreed. The freedom to "own" your body doesn't stop at just a woman's reproductive organs.

The average person has enough spare parts where they could still get by though...2 eyes, 2 lungs, 2 testicles, 2 arms, 2 legs, etc, etc. I wonder how much tonsils and an appendix would go for on the black market ?.

IMO legalizing or keeping drugs illegal shouldn't be a concern in deterring robbing and stealing. If we've an issue with robbing and stealing, maybe we need a harsher penalty for such crimes.

True. The legalization of drugs is about the freedom to put into your body what you want because you are a free adult.

The reduction in crime and prison population is just a positive fallout from that.

as in the stealing and robbing shouldn't be the argument if drugs are to be legal or illegal.
