If there's an interest in racing a few together, they may want to keep the boat as standard as possible to avoid costs going up too much. My guess based on comments on other "bargain" boats, is that waterproofing, rigging and ruder shaft/fixing may be first in line for upgrades.

dying to pull the trigger and order the Vela. Ready to Sail.
One would think the HobbyKing Monsoon, ThunderTiger ENTZ / China Team / Voyager II, Kyosho Seawind, and AquaCraft Vela would be a great class of similar boats. Lots of sailmakers that could add nice sail kits for these as they have done with Soling 1M, Victoria, Micro Magic and others. |

Pull the trigger..
Pull the trigger JD.
Bruce and I need another boat to sail with. Hey, we bitch about the wind for our FE's but with these you want the (always) wind....(well not too much though ). I have a old Trade Winds or a Black Hawk 32 and a Lightning catamaran that Scorp could sail, ( Trade Winds is kinda a tugboat compared to Seawinds and this one.) He would upgrade with a brushless anyway!!!!! ![]() Truthfully one boat gets a little boring but 2 or 3 is lots of fun. My Seawind with Oracon sails. Stringfly <>+++++ |

I built a couple of Victor Soling 1Meters when they first came out around 1987. Lots of fun to goof off with. Make sure scorp gets the trade wind. we dont need him luffing sails in front of us trying to figure out how to tack. His torrets will be in overdrive. Vela looks like what I will get. Definately will update the sail sets. Will be great fun in between FE runs. Plus wind/water conditions would always provide options for us every time out. |

good..
Glad to hear it. Hope you like it.
Yea,,, the hot Tang will have to go !! . You will never get the rigged boat in it. I built a Soling M years ago also, my first sailboat. We use to sail them in Lakewood. ABS hull and all wood mast and booms but a nice boat. Was in Hobby Town Sat. They have a sailboat, forgot it's name, with a motor and prop out the bottom. Thats what Scorp will get....LOL Stringfly <>++++ |

Background - I have 3.2 sailboats now.
Laser Nirvanna II Vela University Club (Ha!) My hopes for the Vela were speed/length/cost and to sail at our club and keep up with some of the 1M guys at the EMYC. Initial impression - big box... lots of protective styrofoam. Tatic radio 2.4 with digital trims looks very nice and welcome to have the full system already installed. Boat looks well made (certainly not cheap) and very nice lines. Keel/Bulb come already put together and the weight/length suggest this boat is meant to move on the water. Everythig is labeled on the rigging although I haven't started that yet. Assembly should be easier than I thought. More tomorrow. |
