Some quick notes on the build.

1) If you are going to fly 4S I suggest removing the foam first in the body before starting. You may not depending on your lipo brand.

2) I modified the aileron control horns so they were more streamlined (see photos)

3) CG range per the manual is 60-70mm from the front of the wing, as shown in the last photo with the 4S 2200 lipo was at ~63mm.

4) The thrust tube butts up to the back of the fan unit it does not go over it. The tube is taped to the housing outside diameter.

5) The mounting screws:
The short one with the wide head is what holds the rudder to the stab. The two longest screws with a portion of unthreaded area are for the wing leading edge and the shorter ones are for the wing trailing edge and the stabilizer. Tighten until snug or you will strip them out! I happen to like how well it bolts together. No slop.

Nice.

What diameter are your thrust tube end? ~52mm?

I was thinking of putting the aileron servo arm trough the top off the wing. No chanse to damage in landings on grass that way. I have done that on my Graupner Mirage 2000 and it works well.

Hey Don, where is your RX located? Ive been having trouble finding a good spot to mount the RX.

Ooo! Saw it!

In picture with 'Pentium 60 installed on the floor.' caption.

However, is that spot ideal for >500m flight? I am using a rather similar RX which also has the little antenna.

51.5mm is what I use when calculating the thrust tubes.

Actually I swapped for an Optima 7 receiver. The receiver is now located in the upper part of the fuselage where the motor wires are. It just sort of fit in there nicely.

Probably about 100 mph. If the model was a little cleaner then more mph but this kit like so many other foamies (except the Phase 3 f-16 and Alfa EDF models) has a 1/4" thick trailing edge on the wing, stab, and fin so that eats power. Its OK when you go 60-70 mph but is an issue at 100 mph.

Wow, It really looks like it would be faster than that from the static pics. Oh well. Most of the 64mm planes out now with those thick trailing edges hit that wall about 95 as you said.

Speaking of the P3 F16, I just came back from flying mine tonight on a Wicked+4000/64mm EDO1 and oh my gosh....Maybe 110-115.....I guess it doesn't need a re-balance after all!

Edit: I am still on the fence about the power system for this Stinger......The smallest 4s lipos I have are the Rhino 25c 4s2350's...the long slender ones...but they are 260g. I know if I go 3s, I will want to change it out after a week!

C'mon Don ... get us some video!

I also really like the way this one bolts together.

My stocker needs more power though now.

That is why I should just pony up for 4s from the start.

True .... BUT, depending on your skill level, the Stinger on the stock power system could be a good, er, dare I say EDF trainer? It is not exactly a slouch on the stock system. Going 4S will increase the wing loading a bit. A lighter airframe is usually a little safer for newer EDF folks ... more forgiving.

It looks like the Stinger will accommodate a several different power systems, from a lightweight stock 3S system to Dons higher powered, 4S performance EDF systems. EDF pilots with a little more experience will no doubt gravitate to what Don is doing with his.
