I had this on one of the surfaces ... pulled it off completely and used Foam-Tac on both surfaces ... pushed them together and wiggled them about a bit, pulled them apart for a couple of minutes and then back together ... stronger than they ever were now

As far as using foam safe CA ... I use this on a lot of my models when I use the plastic hinges with the metal pin, I grease the hinge / pin first ... push the hinge into the foam just a little and put CA on both sides of the hinge, push it in all the way and spray it with accelerator

Rem, I used CA hinges as well. No issues what so ever. However I would recommend using the thin CA. The foam safe CA is to thick, unless you have foam safe thin CA which I have never seen.

Just take care with alignment. I know it's more work but four on each seemed to help me with alignment.

Has anyone tried using CA hinges for refitting this kit? I have lots of them, as well as the foam safe CA too.
I used CA on mine, REM and regular CA with kicker. No issue whatsoever.

Hinges and CA

Someone asked for photos of the hinge installation.

Here are the Ailerons, Rudder and Elevator on my Dynam Albatros.

Also the hinges from HK along with the CA I use. I have not used kicker, just let them hang from the fixed surface and make sure they are hanging at 90 degrees. Let fully set and attach the control surface with Thin CA making sure it goes deep into the hole I had previously drilled.

Good luck.

You might want to check YouTube. There is likely a video there on "installing DuBro hinges" (although almost any pinned hinge will work well). As for size, I would think anything in the plus/minus 1/2" wide size would work well.

if you're using pinned hinges apply vaseline on the hinge pin to prevent whatever glue type you choose to use. there is thin foam safe CA. i use it and it's no more viscous than water... kinda a PITA. ferret has also used the vaseline technique to grand success.

I have found the white Gorilla Glue to work well on CA hinges, when working on larger planes.

Gives me more time to align the hinges and the control surfaces, and I'm less concerned that I've got enough glue on them, since the glue expands.

Thanks guys, appreciate your responses. Only reason I was thinking of the CA hinges is that I have them on hand for two upcoming kits builds. I always used the Dubro pinned hinges in the past for wood kits, however the workshop stock is mighty depleted. Next time I head for town will make sure I pick some up.

FM, did you have to imbibe in a lot of liquid sanity check doing that lozenge paint scheme on your Alby? Nice work.

Thanks for the kind words.

Check the Dynam Alby thread http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1921674

My build is somewhere around page 28 or so. Quite the journey but turned out great if I do say so....and I do!

Check out my post and pix #3396 on page 227 Du-Bro hinges all round. I have used these, pin hinges and fiber/ca depending on the model and surface thickness.

The sad part is that I knew better. The ONLY plane that I own that I had not replaced the foam hinges on was the WACO.
It did not seem that that many flights had gone under her wings, but at a minimum of 5 packs a day and five to six days flying per week it added up in a hurry. I thought that the foam would hold until I did the repaint I had planned, but two months came and went and so did the WACO. Around 200 flights. I had no idea 'till I went back and started to add it up.

I am currently building my Dynam Peaks and yes, with pin hinges before the maiden.

As soon as my finances rebuild to allow it I will be reordering another WACO. I can't see going very long without one in my flight rotation. At the front I don't hesitate to add!

Yes by all means lube the hinge, I didn't listen to Flying buddy on this, had to pry out eight of the prettiest robert hinges from both ailerons.

A light oil works, like 3in1 and sewing machine, too.
