Autonomous Flight Controller overview

I am looking for flight controller Software for autonomous flights using Waypoints, RTH, etc.

There are a lot developing in this area at the moment.

I did some research, here are "the from my point of view the high potential" - software projects so far in descending sequence:

sure, some maybe not able to work with way points, but maybe in the future?

Her is a list of "the from my point of view the high potential" - Flight Controller Boards so far in descending sequence:

of course, not every FC software stack will work on every board.

Another interesting question is what kind of Ground Control Station you prefer.

Here again, not every GCS will work with every FC Software

which OSD? hardware wise there is no question for me: MICRO MinimOSD. Sadly my favorite osd software mwosd works only with MSP and not MAVlink

Sure, the lists are not complete. but i will update this lists if i find out more or new projects appear.

Also some projects are forks like openPilot>TaulLabs>dronin or cleanflight>INAV or cleanflight>betaflight

Did i forget something? What is your choice and why?

02.07.16 added dji + JIYI P2 PRO

I used APM Mini Pro on Ardupilot/Arduplane 3.4v firmware on my plane usually doing some long range mission flight and some for aerial mapping. Very reliable. I had dozens of autonomous flight on my youtube channel with high success rate flying unmanned by just monitoring the telemetry feedback.

------------------------------------|HARDWARE|-----------------------------------------------------------------
Flight controller: APM mini Pro
Firmware: Arduplane 3.4 (Ardupilot)
MinimOSD: MinimOSD - Extra firmware
Ground station software: 3DR Tower (On smartphone) + Mission Planner (On notebook)
Telemetry: Cheap stock 3DR telemetry on di-pole antenna

As far as I know INAV and Dronin are the only solutions for RTH as failsafe on Naze32 boards. I'm right? Which of those is the most advanced one regarding RTH on failsafe?

Pixhawk PX4 V2.4.8 is the best. Get two, one for the airplane and the other for the antenna tracker. Just run Mission Planner on anything (laptop, tablet, mobile device) and that’s all you need.

APM is a 15 year old hardware design that uses an 8-bit CPU with not much memory. PX4 uses a 32-bit CPU with plenty of memory thatís why all the new firmware features are only available if you have a Pixhawk. If you get a full Pixhawk you get redundant accelerometers and gyros. I also use two GPS and magnetometers on most of my airplanes. The mini versions donít have those features.

The firmware developers are really on top of the latest trends and user needs. My biggest problem with some other brands is their very slow firmware development and problem resolution.

I recently started using the antenna tracker firmware and it works great. Thatís another advantage of Pixhawk hardware Ė there are many firmware programs available.

Patrolling around the urban early in the morning. This time the weather is calm and less windy. Smooth flight all the way. Old relic Mini APM 3.1 works great.

You may get more feed back posting these videos in another forum. This post seems to be polling about flight controller, ground stations, etc

Yes it is, this plane demonstrate the use of APM (Ardupilot) flight controller. It flown autonomously with zero user input. It better to show video to proof how each flight controller performed which is why i'm showing everyone. To support the poll we need to show its capability. Unfortunately in this thread people just all talk no video to proof. So i'm stepping up mine to proof its functionality. So what you guys been doing till now to help this thread being more informative?

Below are built photo using mini APM 3.1 flight controller on Wing Wing Z-84:

Mini APM Arduplane powered Mini Wing Wing Z-84 pushing autonomous to 31KM. Quite a feat for a tiny plane.
