Goldberg 'Lil Jumpin Bean'

Hi All,

I've done the LJB and while I have not built it yet the drawings are complete. I've posted the .dxf (you need to rename it) for those who have access to a laser cutter. I'll post some photos when I'm done.

Cheers,

I did not have one, but the mention of the name evoked a great memory for me.

One of my childhood friends and I spent the summer of 82 flying controline planes, among other things.

He had built a little jumpin bean, the first balsa model he ever built after learning on the good old cox pt19.

I helped him with the tissue covering and on a warm summer day in June, on my parents front porch, we painted the plane. The navy blue aerogloss dope seemed a little too dark to match the dark blue on the cover so I took what was left of a bottle of swift white aerogloss and we diluted the dope so it looked about right.

I still remember sitting there at the marble table on my parents porch while we took turns putting coats of dope on the plane and talking about science, outerspace, physics and girls.

Good times!

I had a Jumping Bean back in 1974, when I was 13. Flew the daylights out of that thing with a Babe Bee .049 and 35-foot lines. That airplane put up with a lot of "Figure 9s" into the grass while I learned the basics of loops and flying inverted. Very easy to fly and a great step up from my Goldberg Swordsman 18.

I have a skeleton of one hanging on my wall! Was a guy from works brothers. Keep wanting to clean it up and give it some fresh covering.

I built the Lil' Jumpin' Bean back in 1979, with a Baby Bee and 35' lines (hat tip to Moeregaard). Fun plane. I covered it in silkspan and clear nitrate, followed by several coats of orange and yellow butyrate. Nice little flyer.

Years later, I built another one for nostalgia sake, and got really dizzy on the first couple of flights. I have not returned to CL since. R/C can really spoil a guy!

Its easier to get into RC than UC now a days. Get a RTF V911 for price of UC kit and a small UC kit at that. Much different way back when. I was around as a kid when Goldberg kit J/B was new release.
