That's great Branden....hope it works well for you. I also picked up a couple sheets of the stuff and wrapped it around both a 5/8" dowel and a 1/2" dowel with no problems. If I had a good dimensioned three view of that gun would be tempted to make one up myself, just in case I get the bug to build a WWI fighter.....

Hi Branden.

Any help I can provide I am here. I am glad it worked out. My plane is a Sopwith Pup 1/8 scale.

Well, this is what I have come up with so far. Its a 3/8" dowel wrapped in the cardboard and two 1/16" bands of balsa on the ends, and a dowel barrel. I haven't gotten the receiver done yet. I also wrapped a piece of aluminum rod with some of the leather and bent it for the windbreaker/site/not sure what to call it.

Sure anytime. I just love watching your plane come together. I am really learning. How did you get the grooves on the main part of the gun?

Well, I took Dons idea and went to Hobby lobby to find that rippled type card stock and then just wrapped a piece of it around the dowl.

What you've got going on there has a head protector on it?
The RNAS didn't allow the parachute, nor the protect your face padding when you crash landed things. Those things only came in the great war after the Great War.

If you were shot down, you were clearly not following direct orders to shoot down enemy aircraft.
If you craft failed in flight, well it's not cricket at all, you see. Good luck, off you go. Stiff upper lip, eh what?

Cheers!

Thanks again Don!

So, I guess it would be a head protector. Kind of what I figured but thanks for letting me know, Rocket. I like the way you explained that!

Hi Branden

I was looking on line and it looks like face protector has some type of glass shield in front of the leather bar. I was planning on using some plastic from electronic packaging or the like. What are you going to use?

Yeah Sean, good eye. I have noticed that as well on the pictures but I hadn't decided yet. Also still thinking of how to mount that thing onto the gun! Anyway, I think the clear packaging you mentioned will be perfect for it. I will probably use something like that too. I also have some left over clear plastic from previous kits that I have built. A lot of times kits come with more than you need of about everything. So, I have a little stash of goodies going on now
Let me know how you make out. I am painting mine right now.

Well Boys, I'm done with it. I'm happy with the way it turned out and I'm ready to fly it when I get a chance. This is my first RC build, scale or otherwise and I guess I'm preparing for the worst. Wish me luck that I don't completely destroy it within the first 60 seconds of flight or something Anyway, thanks to everyone for the help. I will try and post a video of the maiden when I make it out. It came to 7.4 oz. AUW with a tolerance of 8 oz. so I am glad about that!
Branden

BTW, I have an 8x6 electric prop on it right now but I have several to choose from. I just wondered what your opinion might be for the prop size. It is an EPU-4 with a 2cell 500 mAh battery. Thanks
