Question
What happens when you cross a Fish with a Flow

You get a "Flyin Fish"

Having built several of Paige Anderson's Flow Designs and a couple of Steve Lange's le Fish. I decided to build my own combining what I consider to be the best points of both with a few of my own innovations. The wing cores are by Cory at Flying Foam and were a joy to work with. All of the other parts were hand cut or carved by myself.

There are many excellent flying, light weight ultrabats, but most lack style. This was an attempt to attain the excellent flight characteristics and light weight with a good looking airframe.

Started out by getting all of the equipment as far forward as possible to minimize and need for balance lead. Longerons also double as push rod (cable) guides, using carbon fiber tubes inlaid to fuselage using white Gorilla Glue. This makes them stiff and light.

Flyin Fish #3

When covered with 1.7 mil laminating film and a five cell AAA battery it required 1/4 ounce of nose lead to balance. Flying weight 15.5 ounces.

Wow 150 grams difference (1.7 to 3 mil)
Big weight difference = huge wing loading difference =

50 grams of the difference is the heavier 4-cell AA pack vs the 5-cell AAA pack.

It should be nice to have a "quiver" of Le Floshes... one to suit any lift condition.

My 21 and 43 ounce Le Fishes cover most flying conditions. I do need an ultra light though for the super light days... not common here.

Still a 100 odd grams is a good saving
Cliff
