Great work!

Hi Ilkka,
You are doing a wonderful job on this model!
Is machinist your everyday work? Your retracts are amazing! I am VERY impressed with the movement of your main gear.
Keep up the great work, I look at it closely!
Thank you for sharing with us!
Regards from Canada

superb75, no I am not a machinist by trade. I work in office and there I never see any real products made. Just debugging sofware and solving other peoples' virtual problems. So I need modeling hobby to be able to make something real and to hold them in my hands.

I put the batteries (radio and landing gear) in the belly gondola to get them as far forward as possible to get the CG right. The gondola rear hatch is removable. To access the fastening screw I utilized the scale hole for external removable handle.

The MG 81 machine guns were made basically from balsa. Now the cockpit is closed (permanently?). The fuselage is about finished now. Radio installations and some filling and painting is missing.

Hi,

I also work in IT. I am part of a team where we develop applications for sales teams.

Where did you get the ability to fabricate metal retracts like that? Where did you learn machining?

I can work with wood and foam and flat alu but not something like that!

In the spring 2010, I purchased a Proxxon 230 mini lathe and in the fall same year a milling unit for it. I just switched it on and learned by trial and error. I also bought a book about mini machining and of course I gathered information on the Internet.

My machinery has very limited capacity. I can make wheels and gears for models up to about 80...100 in. wingspan. This is in sychronisation with my shop, car and flying field. If I wanted to go giant scale I'd have to get bigger versions of all those.

She already is in winter scheme, don't you see. Look at those white camouflage spots everywhere. I am afraid I have to change her into summer livery as it will definitely be summer when this ship is more or less finished.

Speaking of winter and schemes I opened a book about Finnish Air Force Junkers. I found a couple of pictures of a Ju 88 posing in winter. To my surprise I noticed the point of view was almost exactly the same as in my pictures posted here previously. And this was not enough: the airplane in the photos is JK-267, the very same individual airplane I am modelling.

Finnish Junkers' did not have specific winter schemes, they were in the German splinter camouflage year round.

Maybe snow covered all white paint tins and nobody was able to find them.

ilkka

PS. Now when I look out of window I see it is snowing, again. Who cares about lost paint tins, soon I'll have trouble in finding my car and house.
