Question
SuperVee 27R Mods?

Are there any awesome substitutions for the rudder arrangement?

Cuz the stock setup sucks... or more metal upgrades, or anything LOL

Thanks

Why do you think the stock setup sucks? It'll be easier to suggest something if you have a specific problem you're trying to fix.

the only mod i have seen people do beyond different propellors, is upgrade to the lipo ready 60amp ESC from the aquacraft UL-1, and that more for the lipo LVC than for anything else. It would be cheaper to simply put a lipo saver on each of the battery connectors.

original ESC:

The motor in the sv27r is a beast. The esc is the ok I added a lipo shield to mine. Cheaper then a new esc http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...hld-32&cat=136

I had the blue can motor the gold can is suppose to be much MUCH better. With a grim 42x55 and some lipos that thing should be running pretty good. I will say it took some work to get it running correctly and she doesn't like speeds in the 50mph range and higher very much lol. I found that one out the hard way.

Do you not know how to read? Well I have a SuperVee that's why I think the steering sucks... That's my problem.

Then I was just wondering if there was any upgrades to convert the plastic on it. Seems the original had a nicer rudder setup, with all the aluminum.

Diesel, how does that lipo shield hookup? Can you post me a pic?

Also, what about running the UL-1 motor on the stock ESC? Would it be a little faster?

Everything on the back of the SV27r is black anodized aluminum unless somebody changed it on you.
The boats work great stock if you have any clue how to set them up.

^^ 100% agreed! EPB686, can you post a picture of your setup? What exactly "sucks" about the steering? Not responsive enough? Racing style boats aren't meant to turn super sharp, and generally only turn well to the right.

It felt like a hardened plastic to me when I touched it, but y'all are probably right.

I just got the boat and ran it once and noticed it was leaking inside pretty bad. Even tested it in the tub. I was so pissed! So I just mailed it back to returned it and there supposed to send me a new one soon.

No it wasn't too responsive at all. It just seemed to only turn descent when slowing down a lot.

Maybe a longer rudder blade would help idk if they make something that would fit.

It hooks it to the power side of esc.

* If you want a ul1 motor. It won't work on the stock esc. The stock esc will go POOF.

The ul1 motor was a lot better then the old blue can sv motor which is why I went that way. The gold can sv motor you should be great and I wouldn't change the motor. On a grim 42x55 should be a nice running boat. I would work on your steering issues and leaks before moving up in motors. JMO of course.

Here's my sv on ul1 power:

Aquacraft SV27 (1 min 52 sec)

It shouldn't need any modifications to turn well. Did it have the turn fins on it? When you tried to turn which direction was it? Did it slide/skip, or just plow straight?

I have a grim 42x55 coming in tomorrow... just waiting on the boat to get shipped back. How much more speed does the new prop produce compared to the stock?

Yeah it had all the fins. It seemed to have a hard time turning both right and left....Maybe I just had a bad servo. But like I said I have a new one coming in, and hopefully the steering won't be a problem this time.

How you know that the esc can't handle that motor? I looked at the specs of both motor's. They seem the same.

kV: 1800
Input Voltage: 7-18.5V
Max Constant Current: 50A
Max Surge Current: 80A/5 seconds

kV: 2030
Input Voltage: 7-18.5V
Max Constant Current: 50A
Max Surge Current: 80A/5 seconds

AquaCraft Marine 45 Amp Brushless Electronic Speed Control:
Input Voltage: 12-14 NiMH, NiCd cells, 8-20V input w/o BEC Output Current: 45A continous maximum, 60A surge maximum

BTW I got two 7 cell batteries for the SuperVee coming in tomorrow. I wonder how much faster it will be.

Don't rely on those specs, they are pretty much unloaded specs. Put a eagletree data logger to that 2030 motor and you will find the truth. There is a reason the ul1 has 60amp esc in it!

* To run the 7 cell nimh you will need to dis-able the bec on the stock esc and run a external rx pack. It will run low 30s on those cells. You need lipos for any good results. With 2 2s lipos you will be in the high 30s low 40s mph range.
