600 blades on Trex 550 Pro DFC

What difference would one see from running 600mm blades on a Trex 550 Pro DFC set up for 550mm blades. The tail boom is a 600 item. Present pinion is 16 tooth. Would going to 14 be helpful with the larger blades?

Run the numbers through a headspeed calc. program,or if using a castle speed control and see if you get the desired head speed you are after.

It should work ok providing you have enough clearance between main and tail blades. One thing to watch though is if you run lower headspeed that also reduces tail rotor RPM and as the tail rotor needs to deal with greater reaction torque then you might have problems with tail blowout if flying more aggressively.

he has 600 boom, so I guess he's safe there

I'm tempted to go back to the 520's on mine after running the raddix 554's for a while. Seems to bog quite a bit, although i've currently got around 2400 gov'd on a 12T pinion. I think I'm gonna need some better packs, as the Zippy's really aren't liking me for it...

Maybe i should just crank the headspeed down a little, lol. I seem to not get very good tail authority below around 2100 though.

JPF may be right about the tail.

Basically it'll be a light 6S 600. The frame design on the 550 V1/V2/V3/Pro and the old 600E are very similar. In the prototype 550 V1 they were even more similar, it used the 600E bottom plate, battery tray and plastic mainshaft bearing blocks (the 600E/ESP bearing blocks have more widely spaced screws and a locating tab)

Not necessarily because there are other factors such as the length of the frame between the mainshaft and the boom and the height of the head.

But having said that, in this case almost for sure it would be ok. Even so it's always a good idea to double check by manipulating the blades to their closest point and making sure they clear.

Ill take some frame measurements and decide. The issue of tail rotor speed has crossed my mind.

You might also check if you have room for 95mm tail blades. That's what the 600 pro uses to cope with the increased torque.

The heli kit came with 95's. So did my 550L Dominator.
