What materials are used to construct a cockpit?

Is it a mix of balsa and maybe styrene plastic?

Styrene and balsa are good standbys, but don't be afraid to think out of the "box"

other posible lightweight cockpit structure and detail materials:

Paper and card grain to fill like balsa.
bamboo skewers
photographic images
celluloid from shirt collar inserts
map pins, T-pins, etc.
waste vacuformed blister packaging materials
covered and not covered foam
Extruded EPS foam sheet
spare plastic model parts
discarded toys, if you have kids in the house...

You can create small detail parts from heavy materials, make an impression in modeling clay and cast the impression wirh polyester resin and microballoons for a very lightweight part. East way to make lots of instrument bezels, for example.

This list is from 5 minutes reflection....I am sure there are other obvious items I have missed.
