TechOne Thunder 180 EPS Lightweight Advanced 3D Foamie

Yet another new Foamie, seems TechOne are going head to head with the stuntmaster.

This is aimed at the advanced 3D market, they say developed to be more stiff for better maneuvering. Hence they use EPS material with balsa and carbon strengthening.

Will be interesting to see the price they retail at, imo the competition (Multiplex) are very over priced. I do prefer the stiffer models as i have learnt more snappier and high energy maneuvers so will watch with interest.

From Site:-

Thunder180 Ultra Lightweight Advanced Indoor 3D

Remember TechOne Venus? The best indoor 3D plane for beginners. Thunder 180 was designed as higher level than TechOne indoor 3D best seller-Venus EPO.

We’ve been eager to design a mould indoor 3D plane with super lightweight and very good rigidity for medium and advanced pilots. We’ve been trying many ways but all failed, but we got to know if we insist using EPO material, then we would never success even changing to different structure. At last, we decide to use EPS due to its lightweight and great anti-torsion rigidity. And we make reinforcement with balsa and carbon fiber stirps in fuselage and wing.

We think medium and advanced pilots will mostly focus on flying performance, they has less requirements on anti-break ability than beginners, so Thunder is designed to consider more about how to get better flying performance.

Wingspan: 900mm
Overall Length: 976mm (38.4 in)
Flying Weight: 249g (with 2S 350mAh battery 35g)
Prop Size: 8040
Motor Size: AS2204
Speed Control: 10A
Servo: 8g*3pcs or 8g*4pcs
Recommended Battery: 2S 350mAh 20C Li-Po

Here is a small version of the T1 VENUS on HK site also made by T1... it is a great little bird. Uses a 2S 200-300 Lipo.

I also contacted T1 this week and they said http://www.centuryuk.com/RC-Planes are to recieve T1 Revolution and Thunder 180 planes mid October (UK).

Note their website is to be reworked soon, their current list of planes doesn't even list sport or 3D planes. But that is soon to change.

I have my eyes on both these planes.

It appears TechOne slowed down the Thunder180 video giving the impression of a very light wing loading with extreme slow flying capabilities. Seems a little deceptive to me.
Nice looking airplane though.

Two hundred fifty grams ready to fly is all that I needed to know.

That's about a hunert grams less than my Stuntmaster and the Stuntmaster ain't a pig.

Dear Techone,

Slow motioned video = misleading. Please replace with normal speed video.

Dear TechOne hobby

Thanks for producing an elegant video such that viewers can appreciate the control surface deflections in those maneuvers.

First look at the Thunder 180

Just unpacked my new Thunder 180, shipped in a thick outer box. The components are held in place with foam blocks. Motor and servos are installed, looks to be a very quick assembly. Can't wait to fly it.
