1/8 Scale Hydro.

For all those building, or contemplating building a 1/8 Hydro. Here's the fun you can look forward to.
This was a race from a couple of weeks ago. I muffed the start, flipped it in the second lap & managed to haul in the leader & pip him at the post.
Unfortunately my other two races were both DNFs. But that's all part of the fun.

You've got that right mate. And it gets a lot more windy than that on occasion.
That's what caused the flip heading out to the corner buoy directly into the wind. Lucky she stayed upright.

Glad you like it farmer. It's great fun.

I was trying out a cantered straight Accu Tech fin instead of the usual hooked fin. Just in the spirit of trying to stay more scale like. But as you can see she kept popping the inside sponson off the water in the turns. The hooked fin goes back on for next time.
We had another round of 1/8 scales yesterday. This time I ran the Miss America IV Lauterbach shovel. Hopefully Pete will post the videos on our facebook site in the next few days.

Pete has posted the three heats from sunday on the facebook site now.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pine-...44209335677598

Here they are.

Heat 1.
Madracer lost his front wing in the first lap & my turn fin happened to hit it in the second lap & flipped my boat. You'll see it floating near the boat when it comes to rest. It mangled the leading edge of the turn fin. If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
1 8th scale hydroplanes 3 5 15 Rd 2 Ht 1 (2 min 23 sec)

Heat 2.
Quite happy with this one. Got a good start & held on to it.

Heat 3.
Probably the most fun race for me. I just couldn't get round the Atlas Van Lines of big Ash. He was driving it hard & tight on the buoys. I was driving it as hard as I dare. Once Damien got past Ash, he just took off & kept going.

I think hydros are the most fun to drive. Whether racing. or just cutting laps on my own.

Yeah they definitely look like so much fun, seem more predictable around corners as-well from what I see in the video compared to my cat. Love em, will be next after my challenger build, just started on it today.

Just thought I'd post the three heats of the last round of the 1/8 scales at our club.
It's been a well fought battle all year, with some great close racing.
Damien went into this round in the lead, & most probably would have won the title. But he was plagued with ESC problems on the day.
This allowed me to sneak in front with Big Ash second & Damien took third.
