I thought you were going to hit the 1st pole and when you passed it I was shocked. I believe Dan put a new P-51 into that same pole!

Sorry to see a maiden end in disaster.

That is sad. One thing I try to do especially when flying at AD is to stay above the lights and trees. Then if my depth perception is off I still can't hit them. Learned the hard way, of course.

Funny thing is I've flown so many times there I can't even count... but my other EDF and other planes didn't go as fast

I drilled on of those poles with my P-51. I want around several times and someone said "Ryan, watch out for that pole". The next time I came around I watched out for it all right. Took the wing off my plane.

The time previous when I flew around I thought to myself that the odds of hitting the pole were slim... so I ignored the pole. Higher is the key though. Depth perception won't matter if you're higher. Oh well next time.

Not me. I've never hit any poles. The ground a few times, but no poles.

What's the protocol for flying at Art Dye? Is it just an informal thing - show up and fly? Is there a designated runway area in the parking lot? Are unskilled noobs tolerated?

It's very adhoc. noobs welcome and encouraged!

Just don't fly to close to the light poles!
(Or the fence or trees)

Nope, unskilled noobs are executed on sight.

All are welcome anytime I believe. And it seems to just be informal, people post that they are going and you show up if you want to... It's a public park, so you have to watch out for other people and cars.

Just be on the extra super duper safe side of things. This time of year the park is dead most of the time. But just be wise in what and when you fly, the last thing you want is a sign put up by the city banning all rc aircraft at the park. The park is used by alot of people flying rc and the city has been gracious and the parks guy loves to see us fly and is actually thrilled we fly there soo much. But all it would take is one accident going to city council and we will be done for.

Be smart.
