Another piece in the puzzle.
Just it shows the puzzle is bigger than was previously thought.
But really, it shows us, that the Flying Spagetti monster has a sense of humour and is willing to tease us by planting this "evidence".

I doubt it. People can rationalize away anything if they are so inclined.

It does not. As with all conspiracy theorist, the creationist will simply raise objections to the veracity and motive of the study and its researchers, while moving directly to the next little argument. It goes like this:

CCT (creation conspiracy theorist):If we evolved from apes, why don't we have tails?
RP(rational person): We didn't evolve from apes - but we probably share a common ancestor.
CCT: Well - if we evolved from apes, why aren't there more of these skeletons around?
RP: These skeletons are more than 4 million years old. They turn to dust when you touch them.
CCT: The whole planet is only 6 thousand years old. That means all the "research" is a lie.

And that side is the one that is always accusing the Christians of trying to force religion down their throats. Seems like it is a little different this time right?

Just like how someone could of gotten burned alive or strung up for peddling 'radical' ideas like the earth isn't the center of the universe or that the sun is but one of billions of stars.

I think it is quite revealing to watch this all get knocked about.
Some how every non-white cultures explanation for the origins of life is held up as a remarkable metaphysical masterpiece.

Our cultures explanation is treated like a disease.. it's adherents like lepers.

The self loathing that seems to be an integral part modern "western" civilization's thinking is very disappointing to me.

The recent upsurge in the debate over creationism has been largely facilitated by it's tacit approval for the last 8 years under the Bush administration. Who's aim is for 'intelligent design' to receive equal billing in US public schools. A move wholeheartedly embraced by various governors including most notably Alaska's Sarah Palin (R).

There you go!

So, someone found a bunch of bones. The paradigm shifts and bends with each new finding, but do we really know anything more or does it just allow us to do more mental gymnastics about that of which we know so little. Kind of like we become more powerful when we discover something that we had nothing to do with and actually know so little about. When you find one, what do you know, when you find two, do you know that much more? Now if you find a bunch you might have something to speculate about. For all we actually know, this could simply have been a one time mutation.
