AVOID mcx ac fast charger!!!

I recently purchased http://cgi.ebay.com/Eflite-Blade-mCX...d=p4634.c0.m14
on ebay. After about 7 charges with it on 4 of my batteries, 2 70mah vapor batteries and 2 110mah blade mcx batteries it has wrecked all 4 batteries!
They will not charge in the stock AA charger and false peak in about 3 minuets. The flight time? 10 seconds the LVC kicks in! I have contacted the seller about this. It has wrecked $48 worth of my batteries! I am not pleased!

It says in the info it charges at nearly .3a.... you do know why it wrecked your batteries, right?

A 70mAh batter should be charged at .07a . That means your charging at arround 4C, asking for a lipo fire!

There is a guy on here that has made a charger and intends to sell them. It can charge from .02a to .4a in .02a increments and can charge 4 batteries at a time.

You are charging the batteries at 3 to 4C, if not more, so yes, it should severely shorten their life.

The page you reference says, inter alia:
Quote:
Q: What is the charge current?
A: It has not been measured with a voltmeter, but based on how long it takes to reach a full charge it is approx 250mA-300mA.
The author is careless either in his choice of equipment or choice of words. Neither instills confidence in his product.

I feel like such a dink!! The reason my vapor wasnt flying is because the pinion on the motor was loose and hardly spinning! My batteries are fine! This charger is good, it charges fast! And even if i get 50 charges out of the batteries im fine becauses there only $10

The stock AA powered charger chages rather fast.. appx 20 min to charge from LVC of the mCX to full.

There is a post on here some where about opening the charger and tweaking a pot to reduce charge rate... You really want it to be 1 hr.

High rate charging and high rate discharging is very hard on LiPos.

i have heard that the charge rate is directly linked to the C rating of the battery. i.e. for every 10C, you can charge 1C. so for a 30C constant discharge pack, you could charge it at 3C safely because the cell structure can take it.
as far as i know, all these small cells are 20C or less.

just my 2

It depends on the lipo.

Full River has a quick-charge series that will take a 10C charge rate. Their "Safe Toy" series, which is what goes in many RTF products, is rated 1-3 or 1-4C, depending on battery.

Hey Quadracer111, why don't you delete this negative statement or have the sysop delete it?

Somebody may only read this far and only get the bad message.
These guys are friends of mine and don't really need the bad PR.

Thanks,
Chuck

Agreed. It is bad to leave a thread with unfounded accusations on file. Either clearly edit the first post to point out your mistake, or delete the thread.

Neil.
