repairing the skin on a moldie
I would like to get the opinion as to what is best to use as a filler on the skin of a molded sailplane wing.....managed to put small crease in a wing I have and I want to repair it.....thanks in advance

A pic of the damage would help.
Many creases can be fixed by drilling a series of small holes along the crease then using CA in the holes to bind the damaged area together. Filler is typically for appearance and airflow, not structural repair |

2 component bodyfiller (Unsaturated Polyester Putty)would be the best filler for the job,1-3% hardener added depending on the working temp,you can find the product from any car paint dealers
 It;s a spot repair job on the said molded wing crease area  drysanding the crease with #180 grade---->clean--->apply 2 coats of thin bodyfiller--->curing --->wetsanding bodyfiller with #120#240#320--->2 coats of primer--->drying---> fine wet sanding primer and featheredging the old paint area with #600 grade wetsanding paper--->clean--->buffing the old paint area with rubbing compound--->topcoating and blending out old paint area.... SUPER FIL
Bondo for airplanes! Superfil is an ultra-lightweight epoxy filler for rough fill and contour repairs http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/cm/fillers.html This works well and is light. |
