Looking for pics/info on the Fairchild 91.

Hello,

I currently building a Fairchild 91 sea plane. The plane is build with glass fiber for the body and a classical balsa wood structure for the wing.

I want to realize this plane with the Pan Am's color (Pan Am use this plane in Brasil in the 30th). Unfortunately, I only have side color view of the pan am's color. Did anybody have some good view of the fairchild's Pan Am color ?

Regard.

Wow, I've never seen that plane before. It reminds me of a full scale Drake II (especially with all that upthrust).

I'm guessing you've already seen this, but just in case...

First fly on ground with the removable wheels.

The wing span is 1,26m, the weight is 1,5kg.
The plane is easy to fly, the tower pro 2915 engine with a 4s 3000 mAh give a lot of power.

The main problem came when I try stall : the plane fall on his back and start a long dive ... really strange.

Regards.

Back from holidays ...

I finally manage to get some pictures of the Fairchild in Panair's colors. Most of them are copyrighted so sorry, but I can't share them.

Work on plane is (slowly) going on, I just add the wing's float and start the waterproof tests in my pool.

Regards

Fairchild 91 on the water.

Some news of my plane :

The plane have flown a lot from my club's field. It now perform very well and it appears to be a little overpowered.

Yesterday evening, it was time for the tests on the water. First take off test ended really soon with a nose dive ... and a big water splash !

For the second test I pull the ruder to avoid the same problem and the plane went quickly on the step. After a short run, it takes off a few seconds later ... no more radio control ! luckily, the plane fall on the water without any damage. After a short swim (the water was not to cold ) I bring the plane back to the beach.

As soon as I open the plane, I understand the problems : during the first test some water get into the body and the receiver was swimming (or diving ) in the water !

So some work need to be done for a better water proofing of the plane before a second test.

A short video (without the crash !) :

Wonderful aircraft Eric. You may find that more up thrust is needed. This will stop her nosing into the water on take off. If you look at the full size it has a high angle of up thrust due to the motor being mounted so high above the c of g.
Think of something like a bixler with a pusher prop. They push down toward the c of g. You have the opposite of that as you are pulling up away from the c of g.
A truly wonderful model of a splendid subject.
Happy landings.
