Ok, why? What makes this better than my powerlab 8? What differences are there and why should I buy. Go!

+ Cheaper the Powerlab8, or Powerlab6
+ New mult-line screen and user interface
+ New navigation wheel

The Powerlab line is the flagship series. The GT series is not a replacement but rather a compliment. Not everyone wants or needs full blown PC interface, graphing, preset tuning, etc.

Is there a video of the new interface? Would live to see how the wheel navigation works.

It's the first in a new series. It will be interesting to see what else they release.

No video available at this time.

The navigation wheel scrolls up and down through the various menus. It also incorporates a push button (Select/Enter) to select the highlighted function/ parameter.

See here for some details / specs.

I was wondering the same. A PL8 with the larger back-lit screen would be really cool. A discharge feature to an auxiliary resistor array, in the 500+ watt range, would be really cool, but I don't see that happening.

Connect it to your car battery, turn on ignition, headlights, heater blower. Or rear screen demister in the event the rest isn't enough. Don't go too mad!

Then you can discharge at high power if you want. Untested. But I don't see why not.

I normally connect a Dean's light bar from the 80s in parallel to the Pb battery. That helps drain some of the current away.

For carpet racing, a Pb battery doesn't go over well. I'm sick of seeing iChargers all over the place. FMA stuff seems so superior, it's a shame I don't see more of them. My PL6 and PL8 get plenty of looks, but people get turned off when they can't discharge mega high amp internally or something like resistors.

I went on with this on another thread several years ago. Car racers destroy batteries for power. I wish FMA had more interest in that sector.

Other than higher discharge rates without the need for Pb battery, what else is needed in the FMA chargers for that market?

It might take a 50 or 60 amp charge rate on 1-3s batteries to get traction away from the 4010. The larger screen with added data at a glance helps. The 4010s are dying routinely because guys are 40A discharging their 1s batteries every run. FMA's superior quality would be a breath of fresh air for some guys I think. .

It might be small demographic overall, I'm more just a cranky dude then any marketing expert. I love FMA stuff and like to vent the few things that I wish it did. Other carpet racers would be like minded I think. Fads come and go, maybe FMA will have their run someday.

Wattages at 1 and 2s are next to nil even at mega amp charge rates. I also understand not all users would be totally responsible with their actions and battery quality, so there's obviously a whole other level of considerations.

You may not have seen this, but the latest update included a new 1s high power preset. Up to 40 amps. This was for the car guys. That's the max the charger will deliver.

As for the high current discharges, what is the reason to discharge the packs at a high rate. Its to warm them up, and lower IR?

After a few sessions it will have the opposite affect...

What lithium chemistry likes:
Easy low charge/discharge rates well below the advertised max.
And medium not too high and not too low voltages.
Cool temperatures.

What it doesn't like:
The opposite.
