Question
Are there any good 3D printing resources for adding detail to warbirds?

I have a 3D printer arriving next week and would like to use it to add some details to my warbirds. Things like wing guns, strut covers, better pilots, etc. Has anyone compiled a list, or have a resource where I can find such files? I've been able to find a few here and there, but nothing in the way of wing-mounted guns, for example.

You will have to do a lot of custom modeling if you want scale details. Most printing services will not offer modelling at a reasonable rate, if at all. You will also very quickly realise just how far from scale many of our favourite warbirds are

Thanks! I have done 3D modeling in the past, but as I'm older now, I'll probably have to re-learn the software. lol. The printing isn't a problem; I'll have my own printer next Monday. Looks like I'll be prototyping and modeling.

There are some good pilot busts available for download. See:

I downloaded the second one and have scaled and printed it in various sizes. I have not yet used the final "bust," have not found quite the suitable aircraft for it.

There are some motor mounts, but mostly for quads.

As far as details, here are a couple of Merlin exhausts

Here is a radial engine fašade.

And a rotary.

I haven't looked for gun barrels.

I do a lot of scale FPV flying and I would love to have a source for 3d cad models of cockpits.. Specifically T-28, P-51 and ME-109

I know that is wishful thinking but if anyone has any leads....

Wow, nice thread. I just found out that our public library has a 3d printer (and vinyl cutter) available to use. I'm hoping to make some exhausts for a p-39 kit I'm putting together.

Where you located? I'm in the north Dallas burbs... Look on "Thingiverse" There's a few parts up there, including a few I've put there, but most anything interesting you'll have to design yourself.. Part of the fun! I'm also using some 3d printed part to make a mold for casting some functional parts. Fun stuff.
