Does anyone have experience with maker spaces in the area? I used to have a lot of stuff at home - CNC mill, lathe etc - but not anymore - I'm now in a small 1 BR apt - but I'm starting to have ideas for stuff I want. Can I get by using one of these places occasionally or is it time to start thinking about bigger living space again? I need a handicap apartment with a garage, no steps and no yard maintenance

Joe, very nice work on the lipo comparison.

Got a new charger for Christmas. My new TP 820 displays charging in Amps rather than my old 610 which displayed charging in C. Argh this Amp verse C(rap) continues to drive me insane.

Help please confirm the calc for accurately converting C to amps for a given #mah lipo rated at #c constant / #c burst.

Example Nano Tech 3850mah 6s 65c lipo rated at 8c max charge.

3850mah / 1000 = 3.85amp x 8c = 30.8 amp max charge rate / correct?

However for a Nano Tech 2850mah 6s 65c lipo rated at 8c max charge.

2850mah / 1000 = 2.85amp x 8c = 22.8 amp max charge rate / correct?

If mfg charging C rating is not stated for a lipo then what is the safe calc for determining the # amp max charge rate instead just using of the default 2c rule?

Example Genace 2000mah 3s 25c

2c method 2000mah / 1000 = 2amp x 2c = 4amp max charge rate / correct?

xc method ?

Calculating the max C charge for a Lipo that isn't clearly indicated / I found the what appears to be the the methodology, calculations and rational explained on these threads:

Now my head hurts again.
Thanks in advance for your wisdom.

"Maker" space joe. I meant to post a link to the one I know of but got into something else and forgot.

It looks like they have 3D printers, but no mills/lathes. And then I start thinking about a sherline CNC setup again (which wasn't half bad) and I quickly try to divert my mind somewhere else, or else .... :|

Steve,
Your calculations are correct. Also, I think your 2c charging rule is sound. However, I'm pretty sure GensAce packs are good for a 5c charge rate.

Thanks Larry.

To add to the complexity. Does it matter what the input voltage is from the power supply (12v or 24v or 28v) in relation to the afore mentioned calculations or do all quality chargers self adjust the voltage output based on 4.20 volt per cell max? Hence the need for intergrated balance board?

Example, so in the case of a 3s lipo the charger will only utilize 3x4.2v per cell or 12.6v total output to the lipo even if there is 28 volts input into the charger from the power supply?

Oh how I wish now that I had taken some EE classes in college beyond electrical physucks 201. Volts, Amps, Watts, Ohms, C, Wave Form, Flux Capacitor. lol I really don't want to burn my house down in a giant lipo ball of flames.

Two great places to get balance boards:
Progressive RC
EPBuddy

Some will say to go with the cables instead of the boards due to the power limitations of the less expensive boards.
Boards or cables... you can't go wrong with the two suppliers above.

Hope this helps,
D-Man
