Jet Hangar Hobbies (JHH) F-86 Sabre Build

I have just started a conversion of the Jet Hanger Hobbies (JHH) F-86 Sabre. I plan on powering it with a HW-750 fan and an HP 370/30/A2 S Motor on a 10S Lipoly Pack using the Jeti 90 ESC.

Some pics of the fuselage next to my EJF (aka: HOB or PFS) F-86 which is powered by a Midi Fan. The JHH Sabre is just a tad bit larger.

Also a pic of the Midi fan next to the HW-750 fan. The 750 fan sure looks much larger.

I won't bore folks with the typical parts of the build like sheeting foam wings or sanding balsa tail feathers.

Some information links for F-86 builders

As part of the build I did some research on paint schemes for the Sabre. Here are a number of URLS for various paint schemes.

3 pages at BVM Jets
http://www.bvmjets.com/JetKits/F86_60/paint_schemes.htm

Some great photos, 5 pages of F-86 Sabre and Canadair CL-13 at
http://www.airliners.net/search/phot...nct_entry=true

Nice model of the Boeing Chase Plane Sabre in red and white at

Some civilian schemes at for Flight Systems Inc at

and

Some good Sabre info and stuff at Duncans Sabre Page

Some Schemes and Decals at Aircraft Resource Center

Some Canadair CL-13s Aviation museum (note itís a slow link)
http://www.aviation.technomuses.ca/c...&submit=Search

And of course a Goggle Image search using Sabre F-86 will yield lots more

So far I am leaning towards the Airspray Scheme as seen at
http://www.airspray.com/target_div.htm
And
http://www.clubhyper.com/reference/s...rsprayrp_1.htm

Its sharp and not the same old silver F-86. Who knows I may change my mind when it comes to actually painting it.

This should be sweet!

I have a JHH F86 fuse stored in my shop that I picked up at a garage sale a few years back. Also have a JHH Mirage III kit and a Byron F16 kit that could make some nice large EDF's out of.

Ken, where did you order the HW-750 from? I'm looking for a 120mm fan, either Turbofan 4000 (prefereably) or HW-750, any ideas?

Chris,

I got this from someone on the e-zone. I heard they stoped making the 750 a while back. Not sure if anyone has any for sale. I also heard that they T4000 was still a work in progress.

Correct Ken! The TF4000 hasn't been able to live up to quality standards, allthough the fan itself (if you get one from a good batch) is fine. They are backordered until 2006 so I guess that's not an option?! Only chance is if someone is willing to part with it The HW750 must have considerable balancing problems and pulls far more Amps than the TF4000.
Have fun with your Sabre Ken - nice looking!

Hmmm. I wonder if part of the problem lies with the motor shafts not being man enough to stop whirling, vibration, etc? The distance between the bearings will be quite large on a motor long enough to have the weight and surface area to absorb and dissipate the waste heat and the shaft could possibly flex if whirling set in. I realise that the armature will provide some support to the shaft. A 5" rotor might well need a shaft as thick as that of an OS.91, unless the rotor is as light as Schuebeler makes his 90mm carbon rotors.

Perhaps special EDF motors are needed.

Just thinking aloud. My thoughts might be just rubbish

Ken,

Nice!! I would love to build mine at the same time but I have to build and scale out a Top Flite Bonanza for a customer this fall/winter. I will follow your progress.

Later,
Kirk
