how are snaprolls done?

One of my favorite moves in 3D flying is snaprolls. Or should i say snoprolls haha!

What imputs are needed to perform a snoproll

Is there a preset i can do with my transmitter 9x? I was tinkering around and made 1 elever go up or down at the flip of a switch. And what's the name of the part where the plane is falling inverted? I also think that move is phenominal. What's a really nice manouver?

A snap roll is a stall and an autorotation

For a posative snap you would give up elevator followed by rudder and aileron (both left or both right. release the rudder and then center aileron and elevator(split second difference)

If you have 3D rates then you will need less than full elevator, practice so that you are on the same heading at the end as when you start and the wings are level at start and finish.

When you have that down learn multiple snaps and snaps to knife edge.

Don't forget forward stick after the high-speed stall to really whip it around.

Wow sounds intense. I like that. Snap to knife. For these manouvers, are expensive servos required? I'm thinking i need to upgrade. I'm using futs s3010's. Can it be done with these?

Double snaproll takeoff to knifedge is for my foamies, knocked the corner of the aileron off once. Dennis got the inputs right, from there it's timing. And yes a deep 3D snap is not a true snap, precision snaps are way different.

According to Scott Stoops your definition is not a true snap roll either. A snap roll is a rudder/elevator maneuver with a very high angle of attack. By using ailerons you are adding pro-snap, necessary for some aircraft to snap. Also pro-snap is a little easier to control and recover from. Also, if being judged there has to be some noticeable stall, hence the nose up at the beginning of the maneuver.

Jesky is a good one to watch if you want to see how it's done. once you have the basic snap down and can do it nice and clean there are all sorts of variations and combinations to be had with rolling maneuvers.

yeah. me too.

I was having a hard time getting my snaps clean, and Ben from 3DHS gave me a little tutorial at the NJ throwdown a few years back. it is hard to pull them off cleanly if your rates are too low or too high.

so when you see people do that high alpha roll to a hover, that is actually just a snap roll, yes? Hence, why it's called Snap to Hover?

Yes and no. A true snap would put you back on your original flight path. Yes it is a variation of the snap, but you are over rotating to get to the hover position, so maybe a snap and a quarter. I like to do the snap to hover on take-off with my smaller planes. Gives a wow factor to taking off. >>> Take-off, snap to hover, torque roll, roll out in KE, KE circle around the field <<< Then I'm about out of moves, LOL, all in under a minute.

So the faster the servos the better the snap?
