Upgrading your Compass.

Compass Model has brought you a full line of helicopters. From their Warp 360, to the popular Atom 7HV Ultimate, they continue to present quality models that pilots can push to the limit.

Compass Chronos is a redesign to an existing 7HV, to make a great helicopter even better. They are to release the Chronos as a full kit, but existing 7HV owners will be able to purchase the parts as a replacement set. The new CRS rotorhead looks great, and I'm looking forward to more information on it. Scarce photos of the full Chronos, but the changes were released a few days ago.

Here are a couple videos showing the versatility of the new upgraded system.

So looking at the photo, the main change is a new larger diameter (hollow?) main shaft, which presumably will be a lot stiffer. This has of course made necessary the new main bearing frames, new swash, new head and new retaining collar. But it looks like the 7HV main gear and OWB bearing housing remains by use of a stepped down shaft.

The remaining changes look relatively minor/cosmetic, now carbon landing gear legs, new canopy (not shown) with new four point canopy mounting, new vertical stabiliser and carbon braces that stiffen up the boom brace mounts, and possibly also stiffen up the front canopy mount (only use I can think of for the extra two carbon braces?)

Did i miss anything?

Dont get me wrong, it looks like a good upgrade, the main shaft on the 7HV always did look a little 'spindly' for such a big chunky heli.

No price yet from what Ive seen. They also haven't released the new features of the CRS rotorhead. I'm looking forward to both announcements.

The rotor head is completely different with adjustable dampening without having to disassemble the head. New swashplate, and rotor head geometry has been changed.

I'd be interested to hear your thought especially on the new Chronos features. I'm trying to decide if it's worth upgrading my 7HV... On the face of it I dont think it will make any difference for how I fly, the 7HV is already way ahead of my ability level. But it is nice to have the 'latest and greatest' version.

As soon as I have it assembled and flying I will report back.

I have it about halfway assembled. So far, everything fits exactly and it is going together very easily.

More to follow...
