heres another tip Aros, to protect the noce cone from scuffs or unintentional impacts get some of that clear plastic sheets not too flimsy but not too stiff and roll it to a point over the nose cone. when u have it pretty much shaped to the nose cone hold its position and tape one edge so it doesnt expand back open. take a fresh exacto and measure and cut 1'' or 1.5'' infront of the nose cone fuselage union. It should fit snuggly maybe add a lil clear tape on the bottom to prevent it from popping off, but if you have it snugg enough you shouldnt.

Thought this was great. Please hit "full screen HD", turn the sound up and the lights off.

Ordered

I just ordered my H/L FA18 the other day and looking forward to getting it. This one is supposed to have the new v3 retracts on it. This is my first post to the boards so be gentle. And pointers are welcome. I will be using a DX8 transmitter and a AR8000 receiver. I also plan on installing a 10AMP separate BEC.

What's different about the V3 retracts? V1 uses a string to close the door. V2 uses a servo to close the door.

I agree that would be very cool. I haven't seen this plane in real life yet just bought it because it looks way cool.

When I finished building mine, I set it all up using a Walkera 2801 Pro TX and RX. I have since purchased a DX8 with AR8000 and have switched it over to these. Works about the same but has the added benefit of being able to shut off TV if desired.
Somewhere in this long thread, someone attached a zip file for programming the DX8 for this plane. I can't find it now but maybe the fellow who posted it will see this thread and direct you to his post.
In any case, I've attempted to attach my copy of it below. Don't know if it'll work.
Additionally, set your elevators as per the instructions in Hobby Lobby's F/A-18 page. You can download their manual for it. If you didn't get the HL version, other kits may not give a good description of what reference to use to set them.

Oh, here's a short vid I made of my OZ version showing the gear operation and how the TV works and how the motors sound:

I posted a video back in the thread about end of last yr. of my working main gear door mod, but I wasn't with a servo, it was similar to the v1 nose gear door which uses a string. Worked great. I've since lost that plane and am working on a servo/sequenced main gear doors.

Would love to see pics when your done v8. My plane should be here tomorrow but won't have time to get it put together for a few day's because I'll be working. I also ordered 2-5000mah batteries and have heard I'll need to do some custom fitting and move the battery aft 2.5" for proper CG. I also heard of some guy's using flaperon's to get a faster lift on takeoff.
