I fly at BVRC near Bryan. Never flown in wichita falls.

The upper wing strut wires have now been formed. I need to setup the LG wires and then fit to the fuselage. My wheels and pilot came in from Tower H.

I'm seriously considering the printed covering from AZ Models for the wing lozenges.

I found a NIB Saito FA-40A for $100 delivered! That will be my engine and I'll go with the ssuggest 4oz tank.

The new engine came in yesterday and looks pretty sweet. This is my first new airplane engine, all of my others I get used. Size looks to be really nice. Pics below.

I finished bending the landing gear, drilled holes in the plywood formers for thread, then started securing the wires to the formers. I used a little thin ca to tack the braided fishing line in place. After this is done, I will have to line up the LG and wing struts then solder them together. I'll need to make a jig to make sure the top wing mounts are in the right place.

Watching 'The Blue Max' right now, makes me want to lozenge the fuselage too!

Wires have been soldered and I made a dummy top wing to help align for the final solder. I think it turned out ok.

The drawings show the leading edge of the wing to be kicked up a bit. Is that called the Angle of Indidence? Is this considered a 'positive angle'?

It looks like my wires gave the same effect to the top wing, look at these pictures with the level in place:

This is what I found about having the top wing angled up:

Biplanes are often set up with the forward wing at a positive incidence to the rearward wing. This allows the forward wing to stall first (kinda like washout). Once the forward wing stalls, the plane is effectively flying on the rearward wing. The cg is now also "effectively more forward" so the plane drops it's nose and flys on. If the plane is set up with the rearward wing being more positive, the cg "effectively moves back" and you've got a tail heavy airplane heading for a violent stall. - tpstorey

F1 is installed as is the 1/2" balsa sheet for shaping the bottom of the nose cowl.

1/16" ply sheeting is secured in the LG area

Pilot was painted with Testors enamel paint (plastic modeling paint in the little jars). I need to find a flat clear coat that is nitro-proof.

My son says he looks too French...what do you think?

Thanks, I'll try that.

I repainted his eyes and face 3+ times. At one point he had a full beard. It was fun to paint, but best viewed from 3' or more.

Scarf is part of an old undershirt.

The Saito engine started with a few flicks of the chicken stick. From tank 1 it has started and idled nicely. I ran four 8oz tanks through it last night. I'm going to do one more running leaner prior to mounting inside the plane.
