Heading to the Bay Area...

Hey you CA guys,

Heading to Oakland in November to watch the Raiders rip into the Jets...

Any worthwhile slope spots to check out while I'm there?

Hey ajroahkni,

I've just started flying, but I go to Coyote Hills regional park in Fremont almost every day.

http://www.ebparks.org/parks/coyote.htm

Wind varies, but my Raider can always fly. It's a bit of a hike to the top of the hill from the parking lot, but it's worth it. The view is incredible. Red-tailed Hawks regularly fly with me.

A good list of sites can be found here:

or here:

Go Raiders!

Thx Dunqun,

That geocities site is pretty cool, I'll be looking at it some before heading out. Wasn't planning on taking a plane, but just might...

Ajroahkni,

I just realized, I'm going to Maui in March. Any tips on where to watch the slopers there?

Damn, can't believe I forgot. My wife will kill me.

You want slopers? In Maui? Don't know if there are any spots here...

Kahakuloa, Nakalele, Waihee, Pauwela, Maluhia

Do a search on any one of these, OR just look for Brian Courtice on the site. He's the resident slope GOD and a darn great guy.

Of course, you should bring a plane. A "crowd" of flyers here on Maui usually consists of you and the person you came with. Chances are, you could trek out to Kahakuloa and find yourself alone, atop a 500' cliff with 30 mph winds streaking into your face...drying your tears.

What part of the island are you staying at?

John

I fly in Livermore at Del Valle regional park. . . I believe its the most inland recognized spot for sailing for the bay area.. . .Sailing is done on the side of the road at the top of the ridge
Good things: No walk/park right there where you fly .. Good landing area . .No cost
Bad Things: on average no good lift till after 1 in the afternoon

less than an hour from oakland assuming no traffic.

Ssshhh! John don't tell eveyone... They'll all want to come over here!

Try MISO , the Maui Island Soaring Organisation web site. It has some links to sites and will put you in touch with local flyers.

Try here : Maui sites site Pauwela (the Lighthouse) is my local spot.
