My buddy just put together a Pilot Rc Edge and installed a brand new DLE 35 RA last week. As up till now he has almost a gallon through it and had zero issues. He been flying way longer than me. Flies big stuff and he has been raving about this motor. Dude was doing rolling harriers, hovers. Idled nice too. He is using 93 octane gas along with a 30-1 mix. Have you used these gas motors before ?

no i got one for xmas and a 3dhs extra 72". just looking for input on them

Ok. One thing is you can't use any two cycle oil mix. A friend bought a quart of mercury outboard mix from Walmart. That's a No No. I use the HP Ultra made by Stihl. It's In a silver container. Unless specifically noted in the manual what oil to use. You can buy this from a Stihl weed eater dealer. There are some others that gasser guys use too. Mix 4.2 ounces of oil to every gallon of 93 octane gas. Ethanol free is preferred but not necessary. My idle is more consistant with 93 than 87. It makes a difference.

I have one with about 2 hrs on the ground. I find it hard to hand start at times, I often use an electric starter with it. Seems to idle and run good.

i heard they should not be broke in on the ground i would cause them to over heat.?

As I recall the manual called for 2 hrs on the ground, usually mounted on the plane. I didn't have the cowl on. Never had an engine run hot. I had to wear gloves because the wind from the prop was so cold!

I looked at the manual. On the back page it says "Breaking-in at 4000RPM/min for 2 hours. Running at low speed for too long might carbonize the spark plug."

It doesn't say on the ground but the RPM limitation made me think that would be what they were talking about. It also says 4000RPM Min. Other engines usually say MAX so I was a little easier on it there too, not running it hard for the first 30 min. or so. I still spent about 2 hrs. time between some initial run time before going to full throttle, which I don't like to do on a new engine, and then the tuning. Mine seemed very rich on the low end and took some fiddling with before I got it where I liked it.

You should be able to hover at 4000 rpm. Most of the power comes at around that range anyway.
