in reality hand drawing the resist with a marker is going to take longer and definitely be uglier than toner transfer...but when you're too lazy to clean off your bench just to get to the printer it does come in handy. the above SATA hack on an old notebook has been running non-stop for 4 years.

also, 30 years ago when no one had a PC, laser printer and free PCB software at home it was the method of choice for my simple electronics experiments. much better than the other methods like copper tape or perf board.
