Question
Question for the DIY brushless gurus

Simple question, although might not be a simple answer. How much current can .26ga (GB-newbie wire, or radio shack .26, etc..) handle before meltdown?

The reason is that I'm re-winding one of my old ditto motors (18 tooth, 12 mag) for a larger prop, and would like to run 100-150 watts on a 10x4.7 APC SF. But, for the amount of turns that I need, .26 is the only size I have right now that will fit comfortably.

I've been experimenting some, 20t gave me 12v 5.3amp 5385 rpm. That wasn't enough so I wound it again 17t and got 12v 7amp 5490 rpm. Its still not getting hot yet, so I'm going to try for a 10amp wind next.

I have used 26g on several motors at 10a without problems. Around 12a the coating begins to darken. If you have room for two strands, each would see 1/2 the current.

10amp is all I really need, just wasn't sure it could handle it. Now that I know I don't need quite as many turns as I thought originally, I might be able to squeeze 24 ga in. I have fit 11t of 22ga before but it was a really tight fit. The stator teeth are really close together and so many of them, its not exactly pleasant to re-wind it over and over again hehe
