Careful!
HOBBY KING - Worth the troubles???

Ok, so recently I gave in and ordered a few batteries (small stuff) and some cable from the US-based HK (Washington).

I was reluctant to do so due to many posts here on this forum and a close friend reported two poor experiences in a row with HK.

So I get my items in the mail, take them home, verify all the bits were there, and set it aside for a week or so.
When I went to charge one of the 2s Nanotech packs, one of them had a cell with no voltage i.e. bad/defective from HK.

Ok set that aside - pull out the 3s 850mA Nanotech, set up the EOS720, and bam...battery voltage too low...what???
Looking at the balance info I see all the cells are at or under 2.54 volts - just a bit low I would say. Time to get replacements...

So that is 50% of my order bad before its first use.

Now the fun begins - poor response time (2-3 days between emails) - multiple hoops to jump through - multiple people to correspond with - TOTAL PIA!!

Right now I am waiting for a "Product Specialist" to review all the glossy color photos they want you to send to tell me I have a claim or not...

I will be following this up - you have been warned (again, and again, and again...)
This may just turn into a Paypal claim...we'll see.

Yes, they are worth the trouble. Yes, you have to know what you are buying and yes, you need to have patience when dealing with them. You agreed to this process when you bought from them. There are many people who also had complaints that found that by doing what was asked of them worked wonders.

It's doubtful any type of warnings are going to do anything. If anything people have seen the warnings and reported going to he site and then buying stuff when they saw the prices.

Like anything else, you get what you pay for. I don't really do batteries with them, just to many US based options to buy from. For whatever reason I don't find the US warehouse as easy to deal with as the HK one. YMMV.

If you know what you want, and can deal with the shipping costs and times, and yes, willing to take a little gamble, they are perfectly fine to deal with. Use PP with a CC and you'll never lose.

I would not suggest going right to a PP issue yet. You have 45 days. Doing it now will just add another layer of bureaucracy to the process.

Try MotionRC, ValueHobby, or Chinahobby for batteries.

Good luck.

I ordered an HK450GT from US warehouse and it arrived in two weeks (not too bad). But when I put the parts together, I found it was missing tail servo mounts. Sent them pictures and got compensation for the mounts in about two weeks (still not too bad).

Ordered another bunch of parts (including 8 tail shafts) from HK warehouse (US does not have them in stock) and they arrived about 3.5 weeks later. Bad thing is that 4 out of 8 shafts are bent, which produces bad vibrations. Just contacted them and submitted a ticket I will see how it will be going on.

In general, HK is either not too bad nor good.

Bad Business Practice

I am definitely going to give them a chance, but lets call it what it is - poor business practice.
I surely won't recommend them to any of my friends and this will be the last time I do any business with them.

I will go back to using reputable vendors for batteries. I have never had a Hyperion, TP, or Maxx Amp battery go bad or arrive dead.

A Paypal claim is last ditch, but I am not waiting 45 days so HK can drag their feet.

165+ orders here and not a single battery issue, thats just bum luck there man. Make sure you test the batteries the minute you get them too that way you are still covered under whatever the warranty is. The low price is the down side of the speed of service. Top dollar gets you top tier customer service. Bargain prices at 1/2 or more the cost of the competition, get you service, just a bit slower. Their requirements are put in place to sort out the scammers as lets face it, there are tons of them but as long as you take the pictures and do as they ask, they should come through for you. If not, you have your paypal protection.

Sure hope so 3D. It sucks to work with companies that do this to make a buck.
All I have asked is that they respond in a timely manner and replace the stuff that is obiously bad without the fuss.

It's going on day #8 and two emails from HK with a 3-day lag between them.

Accept Poor Service?Why

It's been nearly 3 months since I ordered and received a HK450 GT Helicopter kit. It was missing the boom servo mounts. I went thru the standard operating procedure of this company in having to prove to them that i was not trying to scam them and steal $5.00 worth of parts. They agree to send me parts, but never arrive. The excuses, 'its in the print que" Not in the U.S. warehouse. Robot apologies for the delay, ( another arrived last evening)
In the mean time i took my business else where out of the frustration to order the rest of the parts.
Why should i accept poor service as the cost of a good price.? If a company cannot fulfill all the obligations normally expected within the course of business, then their business model is faulty. As a consumer my best recourse is to take my business elsewhere and tell others of my experience. A bad review is far deadlier than one of praise.

Well I thought this deserved an update...
HK responded and approved the replacement of the two batteries. I need to follow up with the email now to get a store credit or have replacements sent.
Not sure what else will be required - will post final outcome.

I don't know what to tell you guys. I have ordered from HK 106 times. I have ordered everything under the sun from them. Not one product arrived damaged or delayed. When I say delayed I mean beyond what it takes to get to the US on the cheapest postal rate available. I live in NE Texas. World record time is 11 days. That happened once. Normal time is 16 to 18 days. Once I get a shipping notification I forget about it for 2 weeks. Then I check the tracking to see where it was a week ago. I don't have a complaint one. 106 orders (bazillions of dollars spent) no worries. Call it luck if you want but I am NOT known to be a particularly lucky dude! I will say however, I know for a fact that if you order two products on the same day from different vendors (one HK and one not HK) in Hong Kong area, shipped the same method, the non HK product will ALWAYS arrive 2-3 days faster. I believe they (HK) mark stuff shipped well before it goes out the door.

Over 160 here but like you, I order for a lot of the internet challenged members of our group. I also spend quite a bit at my lhs, just not as much as online. Just cant bring myself to spend $30 on a $2.50 9 gram servo

Contry to popular belief Chrissy and I are also near the 100 order mark. You have to remember some are big orders, some are just small stuff. I posted up my list (screen shots) of about 80 orders a while back and there were some that siad there was no way I could have made that many orders. If you add in the orders to other vendors over the last 3 years I'm probably at about 200. You go broke 50 bucks at a time

I just hit order# 100 on my last order. I've been buying from HK for 7 years now.
Planning on order #101 within the next few days.

So far after 100 orders, I've received 1 DOA servo ($3), 1 broken GWS 12x6 prop, and 1 missing windshield (HK sent a new one out).

my total lost has been about $5. My savings is in the hundreds, probably and more like over a thousand USD.

So,...is it worth it??? You betcha!
