My Fokker-E / GWS-Stik F

well i bought this about 2 weeks ago , built it in 6 hours. "Great" i think "i'll be able to fly it in upcoming fly-in" not so, bad weather.
So, this evening , balmy weather , warm, little wind. So i shove in my cycled 7.2v NiCad (250MaH) , check CofG one last time, cycle up, think to my self "feels like she wants to pull away" gentle push into wind climb for about 10 feet...stall.....pull out....get a little height ......trim...TRIM!....trim out.....hit the deck..oops.
Now the conundrum, it has an AUW of 6.3 Oz with 2xRipmax SD200, the IPC 100 ESC, and i HiTec feather light RX.
So, when the minimum weight , advertised on the GWS site, is about 1.3 Oz heavier than my aircraft why will this thing refuse to climb?
Why is the little 280 not turning this thing into a semi....i was going to say speed machine but we all know thats not going to happen....fast...*help me out here*...thing ?

NOTE:I have passed my BMFA 'A' test so i am technically a proficient pilot

Just have to ask since I know I and many have done it. Is you prop on Backwards?

maybe one of the cells in the battery pack is dead?
have you a way to check the voltage? Or better yet, how much charge it will take?

A 6-cell battery sounds very marginal to me. This is the direct drive 280 motor, correct? The high-drag slowflyers are better with geared motors than DD. But this combo should work with the right combination of voltage and prop size.

like i say.....it seems to be giving out a bit of power....i had it sitting on my front lawn running the packs through it and at full throttle it would lift its tail to horizontal and you could steer its tai around (it was bing stopped from moving forward by two screwdrivers)

the specs say a 5030 prop is standard.
that means the prop should be 5" long.
should also be stamped 5030 on the front of the prop.

*goes to look * so it is. i was just guessing 4x4 because a Gunther prop is 5x5...and the GWS one is smaller.

If this is the setup you have .....

http://www.balsapr.com/catalog/parkF...ductId=T496581

..... it's a 5x3 GWS prop. Others who've tried this combo have said it's OK but not overwhelming. Consensus seems to be that it needs 7 NiCd or 8 NiMH cells to deliver the goods.

The GWS chart is very optimistic about this combo producing 4.20 oz. thrust @ 7.2V. My experience in comparing the real world to the GWS charts is that you have to add a cell or two to match up the numbers.

Note that if it seems to be making good thrust but does not have enough airspeed to generate lift from the wings, the 4.5x4 prop might be preferable to the 5x3. Or, if you absolutely must stick with 6 cells, the 5x4.3 prop might help make up for the lower voltage.
