Dusted off my airbrush today, an old paasche VL double action siphon. All my needles are ruined so I have to get a new one. I didn't clean it the last time I used it, so lots of yellow acrylic in there, hope I didn't ruin it.

Going with enamels for now. lots of sanding coming my way.

When doing a bell mouth, how far aft should the fan go?

That aft end of the hatch. Should help balance the batteries.

That's where I put it. At this point, I'm more concerned with air and thrust efficiency. I figured it was gonna be naturally tail heavy regardless.

If you want efficiency...you should run full ducting. The beauty of this kit is it has ample intake area. Open ducting is a downgrade if you have proper intake area. The stock Y/A ducting for the F-18 is not the best, but still better than open. Just make a simple extension to connect to the fan.

I'm awful at glassing and making ducting. Hate it. It certainly would be more efficient. That's why I chose to go with the intake lip.
I think its gonna work out. I got it all in today and did a simple test on a nearly depleated 6s pack and it pushed the plane across the floor on its stand. I'm thinking 12s will provide plenty of thrust.

Call up Charles at YA and ask if he has a Starfire DF Thrust tube. Buy it, cut it to length and Instant reducing fiberglass intake adapter....just wrap some carbon tow around it to keep fromm colapsing.

Even if you keep the bell mouth....and stop the ducting a couple inches short of the fan, this will be better (Hybrid semi-ducted setup). It will make the fan more efficient all around because it will be breathing laminar (non-turbulent) air.

I have all the parts so i can mock it up if you are really interested.

This can also be done with fliteskin...but i have a good feeling the Starfire Thrust tube is about the perfect taper.

If you're going to do that, give me the measurements you need (diameter at each end and length between) and I will see if these will work. I have a few Yellow thrust tubes from the F-14s that I'm not going to use

Were you the one making the little plastic parts to make the stock gear look more scale?

Yeah that's on my list of todo but I'm going to wait till I get the plane air worthy.
It would be a synch to print gear doors too but I haven't figured out the best way to operate them yet so not sure I'll go that far.
