The best way to get into 3d is with 1, a sim, and 2, an EPP Foamy. There's some great designs in the 3D Foamies section that can be built relatively cheap too! So I recommend looking there!

Get a foamy! Either plans in the foamy section or something reasonably priced from a company with a good reputation. I'd say go for a fancyfoam depron but they crack up like the ground when a sumo wrestler falls, and it doesn't take much to break them. Definitely go for EPP.
Twisted Hobbys Crack Yak is a great way to go, and they're cool looking.

True that. Yak has more capabilities, but you can slow it down if you build it light enough to support itself in creepy high alpha speeds, I like the yak better for outdoors since it also minds wind less.

Crack bipes are awesome for learning 3D on though, give it a thought.
