Went to work on the plane this morning---haven't touched it in 4 months. Tried to take the prop off for safety and could not budge the spinner. Used a fairly long shaft thru the spinner and could not get it to budge. Any suggestions? Heat? WD40? help--Bo

hondaboy92hatch,
That motor can be a fairly decent 3S motor (power wise). For all out with 3S , you will need a LARGE pack and HIGH AMP ESC. The KV is pretty high.....too high for most folks. I would not recommend 4S, but others might????? 3S is a safe bet and you will enjoy it more. It will make serious power with a high C rated LARGE 3S, propped for HIGH AMPs. 4mm shaft is a plus compared to 3.2mm. Good luck, Gryphon |

What prop would you reccomend on 3s? I was just looking at the het because I was on the eflux sight the other day. I am open to other motors would like to run no more than 4s. I was also thinking about a het 2w25 I had one of those motors years ago. who is the best source for carbon rods? |

It depends on a few things, here are some initial questions:
What is the max speed you like to reach in level flight without any help from dive or wind? Keep in mind that your future needs may dictate more speed. With higher capable system purchased now you can always prop down for now. Later on a $3 prop can increase your speed. (In long run it'll be cheaper instead of buying another system again). Just throwing out food for thought. Do you have the ESC and battery for this project or you will buy them as needed? If you have one of them, what is it? For any given speed, you need at least certain amount of power (Watts). The more cells that you run, the lower AMPs you will need for same Watts.....meaning you can run lower AMP rated ESC. I hear you....initially you like to cap cell count at 4S. Strykers have been run up to 12S. Most ESCs are capable of 6S. Keep your charger's max cell count in mind because some are only good for 3S or 4S. No need for surprises. Gryphon |

you can also run a aerodrive sk3 3659/1900kv motor on a 7x6 prop on a 4s from what ive read it will get you moving in the 150 ball park, i have that motor as well, but im still messing around with the het , last i have a mega motor on a twinjet i forgot what number it is to lazy to get up and look to see .. its a motor that Moparmyway used on a funjet its on one of his Youtube videos . i belive that funjet was doing around 160mph or better . IMO its really based on what you can afford if it was up to me i would only run mega motors ,i cant afford it, so i have to use whats within my budget i have no regret about the buying the motors ive listed . i enjoy my het and i like the fact that i can get extreme speeds 190mph + out of a 50.00 motor "sk3".. and if i crash and burn that plane i dont have to worry that the motor was a mega motor that cost me over 150.00 just my opinion i usually get my rods from bphobbies bphobbies has the 6mm x 1000mm flat rods for 6 for 10.00 i say thats a steal at that price considering that the 3mmx1000 flat rod is double the price |

Who knew going from 3s to 4s would make such a huge diffrence.
Ok I'm new to this 4s thing but really 3s1p 2200 MD 2505-2800 32amps and 335 watts. 4s same motor 48amps and 710watts with a apc6x4. I think I need to prop down just a bit but I had no idea 1 extra cell would make that much diff. |

eck,
It's not making complete sense but it's sensible. Power goes up with the square of the voltage (or current), so you'd would expect to see around 596 Watts on 4s if you were going up from a baseline of 335 Watts for 3s. (4s/3s)^2 -> 1.78 and 1.78 x 335 Watts = 596 Watts Reality was 710W/335W -> 2.12 times increase in power. In your case the 3s pack had sagged more than the 4s pack, so the increase in power was a little higher than the expected calculations. 335 Watts @ 32 Amps would be a 3s pack sagging down to 10.4 Volts(14.8/10.4)^2 -> 2.02 and 2.02 x 335 Watts = 676 Watts With your current measurements you'd expect (48A/32A)^2 -> 2.25 and 2.25 x 335 Watts = 754 Watts I think the difference between all these numbers (754/710/676) probably boils down to round off on the current, i.e. fractions of an amp. |
