PicoJet Combat on 1400AE vs 800AR

I'm thinking of getting a PJC. I don't like the short flights of 500 or 600 cells and have a bunch of 1400AE and 1700AU Zagi packs. I see other people using Permax 480 with 800AR which I know is the same weight/shape as the 1400 and 1700 but delivers more amps, more RPM and more thrust according to PCalc. Question being: if I used the 1400's would I end up with an underperforming, overweight PJC or not? Anybody put in CP1300's?

I use the 8x1400AE from my Zagi in both the PJC and now my TJ they work fine. Better in the pjc but very acceptable in the TJ.
About 5 to 6 min in the TJ and 8 to 10 in the PJC.

If you like the PJC try a TJ you will love it.

8x1400AE will be quite happy with your Permax 480 and 6x4 or 6.5x4 props. And many PJC's are happy with 8x1400AE, including mine with Kontronik 4oo/22 brushless and 6x5 prop.

If you fly full throttle most of the time, 800AR will deliver the most thrill for a while. If you fly mixed throttle, you will love 8x1400AE for a long while.

I have a brand new pack of 1300's but haven't flown them yet. The weight is similar to the 1400ae and 800ar and 1700au . Performance is said to be the same as AR cells.

Regarding the weight/performance issue: With a good toss, once in the air it is easy to forget you are carrying aprox 4 oz more than 500ar/600ae packs. It is helpful to carry a bit more speed into the corners, and landing will be a bit faster. The longer flights make up for it.

Al,

I'm surprised at the size of the prop(s) you suggest. I figured a MA5.5x4.5 like on the Zagi. Glad to hear the 8x1400 is a good choice as I have 3 (one from you).

The Permax 480 spins significantly slower than your 6v 400 so you need a bigger prop to make it "work" efficiently.

In all honesty, I tried this motor with 8 cells and a 6x4 prop and went back to a 6v 400 and 5x4 Gunther (Zagi) prop. I must try the 5.5 x 4.5 prop sometime.

Test both to see which you like better..

I've tried all those prop combinations - any many others- but keep going back to the MA 5.5 x 4.5 - definately the best prop.

Other goodies :-

The Perkins Carbon Fibre version of the Graupner 5x5

The Graupner 4 blade 7x4 pusher prop. (just don't go full throttle with 8 cells - as it pulls 27 amps ) Absolutely ballistic at 50% throttle, 8x800AR and Graupner Speed 480 BB Race.
