He can buy LTC 3200-5 with Linear Technology.

Linear Technology

MAX4020 can get a sample by MAXIM.

MAXIM

LM1117 is SOT-223 package.
78L05 regulator can use a 100mA thing.
>Which 4MHz and 6 MHz ceramic resonators? yes.

I'm sorry, I meant which package are you using of the 78L05, the SOT-223 also?

Thanks!

I am so new to electronics! I have only worked with disk and electrolytic!

When I go to Digi-Key to look for a 0.047F capacitor, it asks what type.

1 10F
1 22F
1 0.1F
3 0.047F

What type of smt caps are you using in the Rx?

3 1F
2 0.1F

What I mean to ask is:

I search on smt capacitors and it comes back and asks:

Ceramic (25 items)
Electrolytic (1062 items)
Tantalum (453 items)

Are you using Tantalum in both the Tx and Rx?

small values will tend to be ceramic this is most stuff below 1uF.

You can also get ceramics over 1uF but these are more rare. Murata do some nice ones though and they are the lightest option.

Tanalum are what of the cheaper 1uF+ caps are, they are very good but can be more chunky and heavy.

Electrolytics are generally the large capacitors and not surface mount.

Dindea,

if you are searching for capacitors for the DC/DC booster then study the datasheet of the IC you want to use until you understand it completely. At least the Linear Technologies datasheets are excellent. Most probably you will want to use multilayer ceramics capacitors with DC/DC boosters. These are quite new designs. They are available for instance from Kemet or Panasonic, in stock at Digikey. Search for keywords "capacitor", "ceramic", "multilayer", "smt", then probably the Panasonic ones are the cheaper ones. Prefer X5R types, followed by X7R, do not use Y5V ones (these are too much temperature dependent).

Multilayer ceramic types are available in small smt housings like 1812 or 2220 up to 22uF or so. You will need a rated voltage of 10V or better 16V.

Good luck!

Regards, Jochen

Dindea,

Three capacitors of 0.047uF currently used for the transmitter are very important parts. A polyester film capacitor with high stability is used. It is set to P4589-ND in Digi-Key.

The rest of the caps in the tx (the blue ones values 10F, 22F and 0.1F) are they just any regular tantalum cap?

Do you have a good part number for the IR LED's?

Thank you so much!

18, SLR931A, ???

LED equivalent to SLR931A has come out of many makers.

1, 10F cap,???
1, 22F cap, ???

Even if the capacitor of 10uF and 22uF is not the surely same capacity, it can be used. In Digi-Key, 22uF/16V of P5135-ND, P2040-ND, etc. can be used.

1, 0.1F cap, ???

It is in Digi-Key in large numbers. BC1114CT-ND, BC1139CT-ND, BC1145CT-ND, BC1157CT-ND, BC1084CT-ND, etc.

The package of the 1595 would be max1595EUA50 8Leg uMax,uSop
Make sure you get the 50 it's the 5 Volt version.

While you are there you can get the Max4020 also. The
package I think would be 14/SO. 150.

I also had a hard time figuring out which packages but then I studied the package outline documents at Maxim. And it's a bit easier now.

http://www.maxim-ic.com/cgi-bin/packages?Type=Max

It would be nice to have a document with all the parts n packages for the Mini IR TX,IR TX Ver2, IRXA301,IRXA301-2, and Pic Programmer as well as where you can get them for the next DIYers.

I guess Digikey carries everything but the Maxim chips.

Here are some links which might be helpful to learn a little about
SMD.

SMD Code Book

SMT Prototyping Hints and Tips

This project has put the fun back into electronics for me.

Koichi Tanaka I appreciate you making this information available.
