Question
450-sized cases?

Hi everyone,

I am almost finished building a 450-sized helicopter, and I'm looking to find a new home for it other than the kitchen table. I'm sure my wife will be relieved...

I've been searching for a while, but the only options I've found so far have consisted of the EXI, Common Sense RC, and Align aluminum cases. I've seen someone mention the Outrage case from helidirect, but I was unable to find that one when I looked. I've also read about people using toolboxes and foam to make their own cases. I have no interest in soft cases - weight isn't as much of a concern as preventing damage to the heli and radio.

I like that the EXI case has the heli standing up and the price looks good, but it is frequently sold out, and shipping seems pretty high. Overall, I guess the cost is comparable to the competition - or better - once you add shipping, so that's not a huge deal.

If anyone has made their own, what sort of case did you use, where did you find the foam, and what was the total cost? Also, are you happy with the result, or are you still tinkering with it? Has anyone made a case that could hold both a 450 and a micro? I also have an mSR, so this is an appealing idea.

Thanks in advance!

The Stanley toolbox is perfect for a 400 size or smaller.$15 Walmart. The Kobalt fits a 450 with a lot of extra storage for parts/tools.$25 Home Depot. Convoluted foam, $7 Walmart. They only had white at the time, but I've seen black since then.

Stanley with my Shogun 400...

Kobalt... I guess I don't have a pic with the heli in it, bit here are some of the storage. Just make sure to measure the most extreme dimensions of your heli and take a tape measure with you to the store.

Looks good. I may have to look into making something similar. I think I might try cutting layers of foam, similar to the Align case, if I go that route. I guess I should check out the hardware stores.

The link above is a short thread on the CommonSenseRC case. It has a clear acrylic window on the front so that the heli is also on display. Very cool.
I don't have one of these, but was thinking about it.

I have the clear case from common sense rc, and even a month after getting it I still like it... used it just today, heck used it as a helipad today, surprisingly I was able to land on it... micronut's link actually goes to my review of it...

Now I also have a 250 heli, and am really thinking those tool box conversions sound GREAT because they can also carry tools and spare parts, like the ones with bins in the lid

Kobalt case for 450?

Hey Micronut,

Does a 450 fit in the Kobalt case with the canopy on? And do you have it standing up or laying down? I'm really starting to like the idea of a tool box carrying case.

Ritlee,

I'm sure we'd all love to see the 250 case!

Your best bet is the case from EXI, it's much cheaper than the Align case and you wont find a cheaper case made for 450 helis.

ClubHeli has a 450 stand-up metal case that I also happen to own for $50. Here's the link:

I hope that is in the price range you are hoping for (hope this helps!).
