a thread all about which antennas to strap to your face

Most 5.8 antennas are light enough to mount on top of your goggles comfortably but what about other frequencies?

I ask because your head makes a great antenna tracker and I want to mount a lower frequency but also directional video antenna on my goggles but I'm not sure what would be light enough for this to be comfortable.

Here's what I have so far:

5.8ghz
rubber duckie: 7.2 grams
cloverleaf with case (magic mushroom): 12.5 grams
True RC Crosshair: 18.9 grams

2.4ghz
cloverleaf no case 7.6 grams
half-sphere helix 9dbi 50 grams
IBcrazy crosshair is about 120 grams so maybe too heavy

1.3ghz
L-com 8 dbi patch 450 grams

LOL! You must have a pretty strong neck, they must raise them up tough in Canada. I didn't realize the issue all along was that I was just being a sissy. Honestly though I am going to give the L-com 2.4 panel antenna a go, the website says it only weighs 27 grams.

Oh no!
In a moment of terrible incompetence I mistook .27kg to mean 27 grams and received a humongous 270 gram (well actually 226.9 gram) antenna!

Plans to mount this antenna to my goggles just got a lot more tricky.

+1 for the VAS 5.8GHz 3 turn helical. It doesn't droop and gets a theoretical range http://www.maxmyrange.com/ of 4.6km, although I've only done 2.2km on it.

I loved my Truerc crosshair until I switched over to LHCP, and dont think they do a leftie yet. Also noticed the ImmersionRc mini 5.8 patch at 8dbi. Anyone used these yet?

I think I am still going to give it a go.
After weighing my FPV components I believe that I can make a FPV helmet at around 950 grams or so.

For comparison
Army balistic kevlar: 1410 grams
My offroad motorcycle helmet: 1219 grams
downhill bicycle helmet: 947 grams
Imperial State crown: 910 grams (I may not have weighed this one in person)

I think a helmet would be the way to go because it would distribute the weight across my head and it would have the extra room I need for that huge antenna. Also plenty of room for a windvane, beer holder, anemometer, and survival knife for when passerbys get a bit lippy with me.

They do and so do I

Unfortunately the IRC patch is new and thus there is not much information on it yet. Time will tell, though.
