So, do folks take the heatsinks and plastics off the Ice series also? Works great with the talon as reported by Steve. I can't find any threads about lightening the Ice series.

With the ICE series you can buy them without the heatsink. It's called the ICE lite

Yeah, thanks. It's just that I have a few Ice series I'd like to fit in skinny glider fuselages.

Well you can pull the plastic off the ice lite's if you want. I do one all of my setups to make it smaller.

I wrap it in kapton tape afterwards to protect it from any shorts.

So you take the plastics off but not the heat sinks right?

Ice lites have no heatsinks. Normal ices do. Other than they are identical. Pull the heatsink off an ice, and you have an ice lite

Another TALON modified to TALON-Ultralight.

Steve thank you very much for showing how it is done. It gave me the confidence to try it too.
We are goint to fly E2K (pylon) with governers in 2015, Netherlands, to equalise output power for everyone. Fixed RPM + fixed prop.
This is probably the most economic USB programmable controller with > 70A capacity (off the shelf).
I run an ICE LITE100A as well but prefer to keep it for F5D actually as it fits better, more narrow.

The cooler was stuck quite well with the paste...but it came off.
I also removed the connectors, so ULTRA light..
Then dremeled away most of the grey epoxy inbetween the motor connectors.
This is perhaps not such a good idea as I think there are electronic components on the board here. I left 1 mm epoxy but I think could already see some parts.
It still runs OK ..
Controller with 3 short motor wires (12 AWG), 3.5 mm bullet connectors , shortened battery leads and XT60 connector.
Total weight 59 gram.
