Woohoo! Scored me an original Nomad

Took about 4 months of looking, but I finally received an email from a fella that was cleaning out the basement and has a Nomad NIB, never opened! I'm psyched! This was one of the first kits I ever built back in the early 80's! Wish Balsa USA still made that one........but if wishes were nickles......At least now I'll have the plans to scratch more if I want.

But it's not what I was thinking it was. Balsa USA had a 100" V-tail glider back in the 70's and I always wanted one... but never got one. I believe Ray Hayes had a pic of it on his web site about 4 years ago... I'll email him...

Balsa USA

I think it was the Allure.. V tail, 205 airfoil.. Maybe that is what you meant and hit the T instead of the R. Brian

I don't believe it was the Allure. It preceded the Allure and was 99 ot 100"... not 2 meter...

Come to think of it, it could have been from House of Balsa. It came out '77 or '78 timeframe. Whoever had it did a lot of mail order wood sales, as I remember... it's hell gettin' old, but I guess it beats the alternative. I saw it on the Skybench site about 3 or 4 years ago. I thought maybe Ray was going to re-release it, but it never happened.

I think you're right about it being an HOB kit. I remember looking at it and drooling, but I never got around to getting one......don't remember the name, though.

They still have those, Brian! I think they only made 100" planes for about two years, if I remember right. I just remember the v-tail, it was unusual at the time, and needed quite a bit of fiddling to get it to work with all the mechanical mixing.

Icarus V tails 72 inch span

I got several of those about 1980.. Midnite models, before it was Larry Jolly model products.. They had a funky mixer that slid the rudder servo in a wood frame.. I used nyrods and made the slide much better.. Brian
