Since the ESC is rated electrically foe Amps, you need to know the Amp draw of the motor. Best way is to run the motor, loaded, direct off the battery and measure it with your meter, which is an essential tool for checking circuits and whether or not you have volts in the battery.
Without a meter, get a selection of Auto fuses, start off with a low value, test the motor under load, see if the fuse blows, go up a value if it does until you dont blow the fuse. If that is below the ESC rating, you are good to go, if not, a bigger ESC is needed.

Im running a 7.2V battery.
Thank you very much, this look a good idea. The fuse will be an excellent indicator.
I would like to stick to brushed for some experiences.

The meter does work better though......
It is a good idea to have the power fused, the fuse should be fitted between the battery and ESC, conventionally in the positive (red) power lead.

Purchasing a meter is almost a mandatory expense. It will serve you for years. The Turnigy watt meter will tell you the volts, amps and watts for only $24.
