12Th Annual Modesto, CA Electric Fun Fly Sun 10/14 *New Site

We have a new improved site for the 12th Annual Modesto Electric Fun Fly. It is Enoch High School in North East Modesto. I will post a map, directions and a few pictures of the site this weekend. Gates open at 8:00 and the flying site entrance is on the east side of the school and the field in back of the school to the North. Lots of green lawn and we will set up on the lawn in the north center of the track area and the track will be our runway. The event fee for pilots is $15.00 and that includes lunch. Spectators are free. Lunch can be bought for $5.00 and soda and water is $1.00. More details will follow soon but this is a save the day notice. There will be two electric glider events as part of the fun fly with an ALES Man on Man competition at noon and our All Up Last Down event at 2:00 with motor runs limited to 1 minute. Both events feature open and two meter competition so pick your event. Open competition planes must be greater then two meters so you can't fly in two competitions at the same time with one plane. 1:00 will be our Limbo competition and it will be on the track. WWII planes fly together at 11:00-11:10 lots of open flying time. CD is Mike Heer

Directions to Enochs High School

From Highway 99 (Golden State Highway) take the Standiford Ave exit in North Modesto and go East on Standiford Avenue. Standiford becomes Sylvan Ave. You stay on Sylvan at the roundabout at Roselle Ave and the roundabout in front of the school. At the East side of the school take the entrance and drive along the school and park behind the school. The gate is supposed to open at 8:00 on Sunday Morning for our event. Do not enter in the middle front of the school, go to the east side of the school so you can drive to the back of the school. I will be there when the gate opens. We will set up inside the track area. See you there. Mike Heer

Pictures of the site

Here are some pictures of the fields behind Enoch high school. They are taken from the right side of where we will be flying. We will set up in the center of the track area and use the far side main length of the track as our runway and fly out away from the track after taking off. We will be in the middle between the goal posts half way between the middle of the field and the side of the track that will be our runway.

The portion we will be using is dirt. I will post a picture of it in the next couple of weeks. It is a better surface then our field out at the reservoir. Mike Heer

Attached are some pictures taken of the flying site today. The event is two weeks from today. The prevailing breeze comes from the right side about 20 degrees off the runway. The light standards seen in the last picture are more than 100 yards east of the runway and should not be a factor in approach for landing. Mike Heer CD

It was a perfect flying day! Charles took out Benard in combat to avenge his lost to Benard last year. Had a nice ALES electric sailplane demonstration. Ballon pop was a challenge but a ballon was finally killed. Everyone said they had fun. Another year in the books. Mike H
